Hello. Until a few weeks ago I had no idea what Crohn's disease was and now it's all that's on my mind. I was in the emergency room a month ago for another problem and one of my follow ups just so happened to be a GI doctor. I always eat right and not a very active person, but still at an average weight. But I was having constant pain in my stomach. My doctor said it was acid reflex and was prescribed Zegerid. But that helped my stomach not the source of the problems. I went and took a few more tests and last week i was diagnosed with Chrohn's. i was relieved at first to finally have a diagnosis but didn't have a clue about this disease. My doctor just put me on Entocort two days ago. And tomorrow I'm going back to college which is half a state from my house. I just hope this medication can keep me in remission.

I hope that your meds work well for you, this is a great forum I have found so much information  that has helped me understand  crohns.I am taking remicade treatments now ,hopeing for good luck

Artkid, sorry for the crazy sequence of events that got you here! But I'm glad you are getting treatment and I hope that you will feel better very soon. You should know that the Entocort is probably not going to be a long term solution, since it's a steroid and is not typically prescribed for more than 3-6 months.  You and your GI are going to have to spend a lot of time together in the next few months getting it all worked out. Do you plan to travel back home often, or do you think you should be looking for a GI in your college town?

Hi Artkid, I was like you when I was diagnosed in 1997. I had never heard of Crohn's before, much less knew what it was or what it would entail. I have had a 13 year remission so far so there is hope that it can happen. Good luck with going back to college and hope the meds continue to work for you!

Hello Kazbern. Thanks for the support. And yes i have an appointment with my home GI doctor during Thanksgiving break (he said it was perfect timing to see how the Entocort works out.) I have a lot of breaks during the year so I don't believe that i need a GI doctor in the area ( although, thankfully there is a center not too far from my college.)

Artkid, it sounds like you and your GI are communicating well. You sound like someone who's got a good head on your shoulders and I know you're going to whip this thing into shape. Have a good semester!
