Methods to Relieve Constipation??

Ever since I started taking Entocort I've had bouts of constipation that lasts 2-3 days. I want to avoid taking any type of laxative because it tends to just make the problem overall worse.
Is there any foods that help constipation? Or any other type of natural remedies?

Organic apple juice helps me. Only if it's real apple juice though, not the watered down sugary stuff. If I take pain meds I usually drink apple juice so I don't get C.

idea I suffer with constipation alot because of my meds. It drives me nuts because it can be up to a week at a time that I don't go . The onlt thing that has helped me is Lacy's dieter tea ( You can buy most Bloom stores or health stores ) or Aqui berry cleanse I get this at CVS ....wish you luck

I suffer with constipation myself. I take stool softners nightly in order to keep things softer and easier to pass. Stool softners are NOT laxatives, they just pull the water to the stool in order to soften it. Good luck!

Shopping in a big box store, LOL.

Seriously, when I haven't gone in 2 or 3 days I lose my appetite and then just wait until things start moving. I haven't tried to use medications to stimulate a bowel movement, but I do try to eat raisins or some more whole grains to increase the fiber and bulk up the stool.

I eat things that are high in fiber to see if I can get things moving along. Raisin Bran, salad, wheat bread. If that doesn't work, I take Miralax.

Prunes are a famous home remedy for dealing with constipation. Especially prunes with a cup of coffee.

Although I wouldn't recommend it for regular use, an enema can sometimes give you that instant relief you need when feeling very constipated and uncomfortable. Overuse of enemas is something to be careful about - they can become "addictive" and then you need them daily.

I use psyllium husk in powder form. I get it from Swanson's on line or whole foods carry it. I put a T and same amount of flax seed meal in with 1 Tablespoons of powdered protein mix in about 8 oz. of milk (I can still drink milk) or you could use water-mix well. I really don't have constipation problems any more. It really works for me.

aloe vera juice, with the anolin component still in tact, has a mild natural laxative effect. the one that works best for me making my own juice. get a juicer and go crazy. your body is not accustomed to getting so many nutrients so fast since the fiber has been removed. i'll feel a little queasy in my stomach and that is the first sign that i am on my way to a massive evacuation.

now juicing is not always like that. you do need to start slow and small in order to NOT have the laxative effect and build up from there.

CrazyHarry, thanks, I have a blender and some frozen fruits and thinking about making some smoothies. i'm looking up some recipes that will help. I'll check out that aloe vera juice as well.

it wont work in a blender. that it is not a juicer. a juicer separates the water fraction from the fiber. a blender just pulverizes everything. but if you do use a blender, try adding a garlic clove, some ginger root, turmeric root, and some kind of chili pepper. fruit helps mask the flavor making it more palpable.

Hello! I was just diagnosed with Crohns on Tues after a colonoscopy. The dr put me on Entocort EC on Wed. It's only been a few days but, I suddenly was hit with diahreah! I was feeling very good lately although, I would take an immodium a day and just thought for the past 10 years or so that I had IBS-D. I did call the dr today and he said that he didn't think that it was the meds but, I'm very nervous. I thought that Entocort was supposed to STOP diahreah?? Any advise for me?

Pamywyner, Sorry but I'm basically in the same boat as you at the moment. I had constipation when i first taking entocort (my GI doctor said that was better than diarrhea. but this past Thursday I got really Ill and found myself running to the bathroom in between classes and late into the night.

I started another post earlier today that involves this change, and my belief that Entocort is the cause of my symptoms flaring like crazy. You can go check out the replies that I'm getting there, and see if any of them can help you out as well.

Thanks Artkid! I'll check it out! All this is so new to me. I was surprised to get that diagnosis but, relieved after battling with 'D' for so many years. I hope to learn lots on this forum!!!

Same here. I'm sorry you had to deal with D for so many years :( but its good at least to know what you have and get the right treatment for it :D

I love this forum its been a big help since i was only diagnosed a month ago. Best of luck to you!
