Anyone have two surgeries at once?

Since I've also been struggling with heavy bleeding in addition to my CD and obstructions, I want to ask the surgeon to remove my uterus when she/he does the resection. They won't have to do two incisions and since they're in there, they can take care of both problems.
I have no idea if they will go for it.

I have had both done, but at separate times. Still might be a good idea to talk to your doc about it. Why not kill two birds with one stone:) Good luck!

Weird that you would post this now. I have an appointment this week to see my GYN about some issues going on. I am afraid that the most likely solution is going to be a hysterectomy. Of course that is just my best guess. But since I don't like surprises I am already thinking about what I should do. My GYN operates out of a different hospital than all of my other doctors. I just said to my husband that if Hysterectomy is the solution, I want to have the surgery at the hospital where all my other doctors are so that my GI can be in on things and make sure that there aren't anythings that need taking care of.

I can say that I had my tubes tied during one of my resections. My surgeon was a devout catholic and would not do the procedure so I had to have my GYN (different one at the time) come in to do it. I can't see why they wouldn't do the two at the same time if you needed them both, assuming the healing wouldn't interfere with each other and you wouldn't be knocked out too long.

I wouldn't trust the same surgeon for both procedures. I had my resection done by a Colol-Rectal Surgeon. Would not trust anyone else for that. Perhaps schedule the second surgery w/ a second Doctor, immediately following.

At the hospital I'll be going to, they do tonnes of research for both CD and women's health and it doesn't get any better. There will be at least two docs in surgery with me, plus an anesthesiologist and the nurse team.
I've already had 1 major abdominal surgery at this hospital.
I shall be in the best hands, or rather, the best hands shall be in me. lol :-)

I had surgery to remove endometriosis and repair an abdominal hernia at the same time with the same surgeon. I was very lucky that there was a great endo surgeon just a few hours away. He also regularly repaired hernias. The local docs all insisted that I would need two separate surgeries. None of the local gyns would touch the hernia and the general surgeons wouldn't touch the endometriosis.

I know that it is possible to have a resection and a hysterectomy at the same time. Many women with endometriosis wind up getting both at once. The gyn does the hyst and a colo-rectal surgeon does the resection. You just need to find two docs that will work together and that isn't always easy. Some docs worry that they can get nailed for malpractice if the other surgeon screws up.

I had a hysterectomy with an adhesion lysis. They just scheduled two surgeons to be in the surgery one after the other. The hysterectomy and the adhesion lysis (and if I needed a resection) were set up to be done laproscopically, it was pretty awesome ( i mean as far as surgery goes). I HIGHLY recommend if you have an opportunity to get a laproscopic hysterectomy you do it. I had absolutely no pain from the hysterectomy (and one ovary I had left) being removed -- though the adhesion part did hurt, I was stunned at the lack of pain from the hyst. I had mine done at Celebration Hospital in Florida.
Also the surgeon I have in pennsylvania would do both. So that's 2 places I know of I'd trust. I joked afterwards they could have stolen my uterus and ovaries, because I had no, and I mean NO consiousness of surgery there at all afterwards.

I tried to do both at the same time. My Dr.'s ended up coming back and saying that I would be "open" on the table too long for both surgerys. I have back problems also.  They figured it would be upwards to 5 hours or more.  It would have been nice though!

Well, I still have to wait to see the surgeon to ask. I can't see the actual surgery taking too long because it's one incision and the resection shouldn't be too complicated this time since my CD/stricture is smaller than before. That's my hope, anyway. Plus, I only need the uterus out, not the ovaries etc.
