hi all,

I have been wondering if my recent pain could also be attributed to scar tissue from my surgeries.  I know with all the ones I had (the 4 from 07-08) each time they had to go back in due to complications and had to remove more scar tissue each time.  Is there any non-invasive way to rid you of scar tissue like a ballon like they use for other medical issues to stretch things?  ..or is there just the under the knife way to rid one of the scar tissue?

Most doctors will not do surgery to remove scar tissue, because having more surgery will only create more scar tissue. I do know that I get alot of pain in my right side, and I know its from scar tissue/adhesions. I just take my pain meds when needed.

That is my current treatment I was just hjoping they had a balloon treatment as they do for some other things such as blocked arteries or my uncle his esophagus shrinks to the point where he chokes so they do an upper endoscopy and place a balloon to open it up was wondering if there was some sort of proceedure like that for us crohnies for built up scar tissue

I have a great adhesion surgeon. He found after a failed adhesion surgery the year before that the previous surgeon had missed that a part of my small bowel was trapped in a "bag" of adhesive tissue. he released it and I could eat. it made a big difference. he spent extra time going over my ENTIRE intestines and small bowel and colon (laproscopically) to make sure there weren't any others. I've learned the hard way, you just need the right person. The guy is a saint, like nanners said, most guys won't do it, but he does, I had to travel to get to him and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. As far as internal scarring - i'm okay that way since low dose naltrexone straightened me out. if you want the name of the doc, let me know. he's in pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania is a bit far to travel I had a wonderful Colorectal surgeon when I was in Rhode Island but a little over a year ago I moved to Oregon and everything is so far away I think the closest Colorectal to here is in Northern Cali

The only time they will do surgery is when scar tissue is causing obstruction...at least that's what my surgeon says. Right now I'm getting partial obstructions from scar tissue. This past time, it took over 18 hours for barium to reach my large intestines, but since it eventually went through, I didn't have surgery. Probably next time it happens I'll have to have surgery.

I went thru what I thought was scar tissue problems, when I was living in canada, I had what I thought was scar tissue removal, big open surgery, was actually crohns in the resected area, because I have the same pain now as I did back then, and my pain now is inflammed cd in my small bowel, so I'm beginning to think evan back then 1989 it was just my cd flareing to the point of obstuction and surgery, it gave me remission for 5-6 years

@janicea - who's the surgeon you know of in pa? i live here and am probably going to have surgery sooner rather then later and would love to know of a good surgeon for when the time comes!

I live in Oregon and have gone to a colo-rectal surgeon at OHSU in Portland.  He is located with the digestive health department there.  There may be several other surgeons in the practice also.  My GI specialist is also in the same department.  I have to travel from one end of the state to the other to see them : )

Hi Leslie!!

No, I see Dr. Kim Lu a colo-rectal surgeon there at OHSU.  I have been happy with his help in other areas, so I plan to discuss surgery possibility with him, I trust his opinion.  I also hope to see my GI doc at the same time, Dr. Collins, and get her opinion as well.  She has been my Crohn's doc for a number of years now and has helped me a lot!!
