Hi, I came across this site while trying to find information on doctors in my immediate area (I recently moved to a new area). I'm 34 and was diagnosed back in 1993. The surgeon noticed some inflammation in my small intestine while performing an emergency appendectomy. I tried Prednisone, Asacol, and some other drugs that I can't remember but I only responded to Prednisone in high dosages. I would get sick each time my doc attempted to wean me off, so I had a small bowel resection in February 1994. I have been in remission since then except for a bad flare-up in 2002 that seemed to have been caused by a food poisoning incident. Prednisone was used to bring that one back under control. I have occasional diarrhea, and stomach cramps, and I sleep a lot, but other than that I'm okay...for now.

Welcome!
It's great to hear you had such a good response to your resection in 1994. How wonderful that you were able to have those late teen years fairly symptom-free. I'm really glad for you.
Have the docs given you any explanation for your tiredness?
Ivy.

Thanks Ivy and Kiwi12.
They never really have come up with an explanation. I had low iron levels in 1999, so they put me on OTC iron pills. My iron levels are usually within the normal range though, so I just try to make sure I exercise regularly, so that I feel like I have a good reason for feeling tired and sleeping so much.
