Does anyone take questran for diareah & do you feel it works?

I have just been prescribed this and just wondered how good it is any info gratefully received  thanks Bev x

I started out with Questran. I bought single size applesauce 6 packs to put it in. The Questran had an odd flavor that you could taste through the applesauce. I ended up switching to Colestid (pill form). Questran and Colestid do a good job of keeping my diarrhea at bay.

You should find some relief with it, but if you have severe narrowing, be very careful as cholestyramine can cause partial obstructions.

I've been taking cholestyramine on and off for a few years. I get the sugar free one and mix it with water. It does help with diarrhea, but some days it seems like my intestines are just too irritated no matter what. I usually take 1/2 sachet at a time. More than that can cause partial intestinal obstructions in me because I have severe narrowing.

If I'm too narrow in the TI with inflammation/stricture, I'll back off of it until the flare settles or reduce the dose to even less than 1/2 sachet, if I don't think it will obstruct me.

My Dr prescribed me Questran and it seemed to help some for the first week. I continued taking it for another 2 weeks and it seemed to quit working for me. I got more relief from a couple of immodium so I just went back to that.

I tried it post op for some time but again the orange flavor is dominant in whatever you mix it with...I also found for me it did not work. On my bad days I have Lomotil that I can use up to 3 a day aI also use these if I know I wont be near a restroom for long periods of time that mixed with light eating helps me on those days.

I take generic cholestyramine light. I take one pouch in water in the morning an hour after my other meds and vitamins. The stuff that wasn't light was nasty tasting stuff.
I works like a dream. No diarrhea at all as long as I'm not in a bad flare. But then that's a different kind of diarrhea.

It does make me feel a bit nauseous some days right after I drink it. But that doesn't last long. And I've been taking it about 8 years.

Questran worked wonderful for me, kept the bm's less frequent immediately....
