Hi all,

It has been a while since I have been on Entocort.  I was placed on it again after my scope this past Tuesday.  I know when I was on high levels of IV pred post op I was in need of insulin shots.  Is this something that is also possible with Entocort?  I never had the issue on the pred pills just IV so unsure if I should maybe use my boyfriends glucose meter if I start to feel "weird" unsure what symptoms I would even look for since I was unaware I needed insulin in the hospital before.

I've not heard of that. My personal experience is I crave sugar more. GI said to try and moderate it but was otherwise ok. But why the need for insulin.....I am not sure.

I much prefer Entocort over Pred anyday. I doubt you will have too much side effects with it, most do much better side effects wise with Entocort than with Pred. I wouldn't start worrying about the "what if's" right now, give the med a chance and go from there. Good luck!

I have been on entocort before but it was all preop so I forget what if any side effects occured

I've been on and off entocort for years now, and I'm actually tapering off of them now. I never noticed any serious side effects except for one.... excessive growth of body hair! ughh!!! it pisses me off so much. Going from being dirty blonde with practically no body hair to having longish, darker hair all over really aggrevates me. also, having a lot more peach fuss on my face! that's the only complaint I have from being on Entocort

Entercort is leaps and bounds easier on me than pred. I still have some side effects though which are a bit annoying- like weight gain and yes, some peach fuzz on my face that I've never had before. I would choose Entercort any day over other steriods though honestly.

Entocort is only 12 - 25% systemically available so it is much less likely to provoke diabetes-like changes in your blood sugar levels.

That said, I think this is a question you should direct to your doctor, not us.

Dragon:  am on Entocort now, thot the GI dude would start a taper when the pharmacy called for the refill but didn't and he wrote the script for refills x 5 - well into next year.  Seems like a long time to be on it since its now been 7 months.  Has worked but gained 15 lbs which puts me in the doldrums, the ravenous hunger is better now, leastwise haven't eatin any paint off a doc's office wall . . . .
