Hello

I been trying to get preganant since i got married just over 6 months.

I am currently taking azathioprine and Pregnance Care (folic acid other vitamins) and have 3 monthly b12 injections.

Still nothing happening yet?

Any advice and during preganancy advice also would be very helpful

I don't have any advice. But I would recommend this book. It is wonderful and I have had a few friends who swear by this book for helping to start a family.

Taking Charge of Your Fertility: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control

It teaches you about your cycles, it can be used for natural birth control or how to get pregnant. If you look it up on amazon the reviews of the book are very interesting.

It is best to be heatlhy and have the CD under control before trying. We waited until the remicade kicked in an I had been feeling great for months before trying. Now I am on Humira (since the remicade stopped working in the first trimester) and the pregnancy seems to be helping my CD.
I would also try not to stress too much about getting pregnant. Stress affects my bodies so much and adding additional stress doesn't help (both with the CD and fertility). Just have fun with eachother and enjoy feeling good. Good wishes for you!

Best advice I can give you is to be patient. Have you been trying for 6 months? Sometimes it takes a little bit to get pregnant regardless of whether or not you have CD. I don't mean to sound condescending, but do you have a good understanding of your body and are you "tracking" your cycles? Taking Charge of your Fertility is a good book to read, but you can find out a lot of info on the internet - what signs to look for when you are ovulating, etc. Getting pregnant requires good timing. :) So make sure you know all about that and then if you're still not successful you can make an appointment with your OB if you'd like. From someone who worked hard for 5 years to have a baby:

If you are over 35, go see a reproductive endocrinologist now.

If you are btwn 30 and 35, read the book (it's great!), get serious about your timing, and then get in three good months of trying before calling your OB/gyn for help.

If you are under 30, a year is a reasonable amount of time to work on this before seeking help.

It was my first complete pregnancy that led to my iBD diagnosis. In my 2nd pg, my symptoms went away (autoimmune disorders can get better, worse or stay the same during pg, even odds of a person expeiencing any of those 3).

Oh my, I´m afraid there only is one thing that helps to get pregnant quickly-do not think about it. I know,easily said, impossible to do. But very true.
Was trying for 5 months to get pregnant with our eldest, 2 years of waiting (getting into remission, resection, recovery) plus 7 months trying for our second and ONE night when we just didn´t have a condom to get pregnant the last time.

Wishing good luck, get busy with something and enjoy long mornings in bed, they´re not going to happen ever again once you have your baby turn

What others have said is true. Stress causes problems and many of the people I know who have had trouble getting pregnant have always gotten pregnant when they weren't trying. One was in the process of getting IVF done but a few weeks before the treatment she found out she was expecting and is 32 weeks now. Tracking your period and even charting your basal body temperature helps to get a good basis on what to go on.

Also I would like to stress that Azathioprine is a dangerous drug during pregnancy (cat C/D). It can cause defects and miscarriages, so my advice would be to get off that drug several months before conceiving. I think I remember hearing once that it could also cause fertility issues while on it. Have you spoken to any of your dr's about getting pregnant?

... about the "relax and you'll get pregnant thing...." That's about as helpful as someone saying that your Crohn's is due to stress.

I'm so glad for your friend, sgirl - I also got pregnant between IVF cycles. What a shocker! But the last thing I'd attribute that to is "not trying." I'm sure your friend was anything but relaxed as she got closer to her IVF. And I'm so happy for you, Joohana, that your baby was conceived on a night of fun.

I believe there are some Crohn's patients with endocrine issues due to their IBD that may make conceiving difficult. Then there are Crohn's patients with intestinal adhesions due to long-term disease that may make conception difficult or even maintaining a pregnancy difficult. Aside from the bowel symptoms and serious meds, there are good reasons why Crohn's patients should not spend a whole lot of time trying to relax when they're trying to get pregnant.

I'm also trying right now... I went to Fertilityfriend.com , it helps a LOT with trying to figure out your cycles, fertile days, and ovulation..LOTS of helpful information on there... Also BabyCenter.com has lots of info and forums too, you could spend days reading all the information on there.... I also Downloaded an APP (thats if you have an Iphone, or Itouch) call Peroid TRracker, and it tracks all those things too...

Just for the record - I'm pretty sure azathioprine/imuran CAN be taken during pregnancy. It was once thought to be a class D drug, but there have been many successful pregnancies here on this board of mommies who took imuran while pregnant.

yes it can be taken during pregnancy however many dr's don't even want to risk it because it has been documented in causing defects and other problems for the baby. It is just like any other drug where you have to weigh the benefits and risks and decide on an educated decision for your self, imuran just has more risk associated with it. My dr wanted me on imuran as soon as I delivered but would not put me on it while I was pregnant, and all of his colleagues agreed, including the 'all knowing' mayo dr here that imuran was a huge huge huge no no during pregnancy and if I was really that bad to be put on it that I should be in the hospital receiving care through iv's rather than being on it.

Sorry, I hope I didn't come off snappy to any of you. This prednisone is making my moods go extremely haywire today.

Thank you everyone for all your replies.

I am 23 and been trying for 6 months following lots of book, website forums and even the iphone app lol.

I told my doctors 2 months before i started trying that i was going to start and they said Aziathiprine is fine to be on but i did want to confirm with you guys if your experience too.

All my friends and family said that relax/forget about it and your get preganant but i think about it constantly even when having sex i prob am stressing myself out a bit so know i need to chill and maybe it will happen. I may even be preggers right now. Period due on 5th so i let you all know.

Ad Azathioprine: My doc believes that it is obviously better not to be on it when trying to get pregnant, but if there is need for it, it is not impossible to carry a baby whilst on it.
I certainly hope she´s right as my pregnancy was very unexpected, unplanned and I have been taking Azathioprine since June this year (was breastfeeding my daugter before that). As the pregnancy came out of the blue, was told to continue taking Azathioprine because it takes 3 months to leave the system anyway.

Conker21, I know how you feel, I was impatient too, it is such a big decission to make, to decide that you and your man are ready for a baby!
I even got a mini microscope to help myself find out my fertile days from my saliva. I have to say that I got bored of licking a microscope glass every morning much sooner that I got pregnant with our baby girl though :-D
