Colonoscopy while pregnant??

Hello

I am 5 days late on my period and think may possibly be pregnant. I done a preganancy test 4 days ago and said not preganant but am always like clock work so still possibility I am so will try the test again in a week.

Meanwhile i been sent a appointment for a colonoscopy on 22nd October so can this still be carried out if im Pregnant?

Are there risk with being sedated and Preganant?

Is it ok to take the laxtive?

I have read all the information that was sent for me and googled it but mixed opinions.

Please say if you from uk or us when responsiding as seem to be mixed from each country.

Don't rely on the internet. Call your doctor immediately and ask whether a pregnant woman or her fetus is at risk from a colonoscopy (including the sedation) or the colonoscopy prep. You may also want to contact an obstetrician (or an obstetrical nurse practitioner's call-in service) to get an obstetrics point of view. Good luck!

I agree with nawlinscate that you need to call your doctor and ask if its okay to have the scope. Also, I would call your Gyn office and ask to have a blood test done to see if you are pregnant or not. They are even more accurate than the urine tests.

I would talk to your doc for sure, but I personally wouldn't get the scope if you are pregnant. Can you take another home pregnancy test now that it's 4 days since your last one? If indeed you are pregnant you would have enough pregnancy hormone in your system now to show up on a home test. If it says negative, then you are not pregnant. You either have the hormone in your urine or you don't - so I wouldn't be concerned about a "false negative" test. Good luck!
