I started Humira on tuesday this week and gradually I have been itching more than usual, also insomnia like you cant believe!I am battling to sleep even worse than when I was on the pred...and also I have had to force my rings off because my fingers are swollen and they were cutting into me and my hands are really itchy too...Is this side effects or a reaction to the HUmira????
Anybody else had these symptoms when first on Humira?

Hey Ashworthml,
I am on humira and haven't heard of itching being a side effect, mind you that doesn't mean its not. Won't hurt to call your doc and see what he has to say. I have always suffered with insomnia so being on the humira made no difference to me I still always take sleeping pills to get a good night sleep and I have done for years now. I also have lots of swelling but I also suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis as well as crohns/colitis and have had a total colectomy and proctocolectomy. I'm going to check out side effects now but don't recall any of those probs. Will let you know what I come up with. Hope u feel better soon

Thanks for the reply, it does say on the side effects swelling, but mostly points out to the injection site which mine isn't. This is driving me mad, I feel tired and cant sleep, then when I do dose off the itching starts then I cant fall asleep again!

I always tend to feel a little itchy for a couple of days afterwards. No insomnia or swelling though. Can you take benedryl? It might help with both the itchiness and help you get some sleep.
I would definitely let your doc know about
this... You could also try calling the Humira hotline, see if they have heard of this.

Yep does only specify rashes around injection site but would still check with doc and as gray said there is always the humira hotline as well. Hope you get some relief soon
Take care

I tend to get a little red around the injection site within a day of injection. No itching, Maybe you should contact your doctor with all of your symptoms. I hope you can get some relief.

Thanks for the replies, I have made an appointment for tomorrow afternoon at the doctors. If it is just side effects then maybe he can give me some thing to relieve the itching and help me sleep too, hey whats another couple of pills!!! lol
