Iron infusion today

So happy that I am finally going in for an iron infusion today. I have lost weight down to 116. Been eating a low fibre diet for partial bowel obstruction, seems to help. Woke up with pain in the night, went to the toilet only to have a minimal bowel movement, thought I was going to have a flushing with the way I was aching.

So tired from the anemia, can't even wipe the fridge down without being exhausted. Almost ready to say, book me for elective surgery already and check things out. The bleeding just won't seem to stop. It takes so long to see the surgeon.

Anyway, have to get ready for my four hour infusion.

Sounds funny but I LOVED getting my Iron infusions.  I felt so good.  It will fly by, take a book or a nap ;)

I had my iron transfusion about a year and a half ago and my iron levels are still good! Guess I just needed that extra boost of iron. Make sure you stay on all of your vitamins (if you're taking any) that help with the iron deficiency. Very important! Unfortunately, my first iron infusion didn't go too well; I had some incompetent nurses who couldn't do an IV very well. But I was all better a few weeks later! Hope yours goes well! :)

question. How was it determined that all of you needed iron transfusions? For the past year my GI has wanted me on iron supplements because my stores are low. And my other levels are border line. Just wondering if I'm low enough that a transfusion would bring things back to a normal level now that I'm not flaring.

@lamb61 they generally tell by doing a CBC (complete blood count) it is a sure way to determine if you are in need on an iron infusion. I my self have been on iron infusions Bi-weekly for the past 6 months. they are great and tend to give me a lot more energy that i had. Also I have found that B12 shoots work wonders (painful though) Talk to your DR. about getting them once a month. I still get fatigued but not as much now after the Iron and the B12 shots. After your iron infusion you may want to consider the following supplements:

1) Iron supplements

2) Ferritin which helps the body store iron

3) Hemaplex pills, they contain may ingredients to help build up the blood

Too much iron is extremely dangerous, the warnings are in many of the bottles, so I take (without food) in mid morning Iron, the Ferritin late at night (without food), Ferritin helps store iron in the body.
