Newbie - Son with Crohns

I have a 9 year old son with crohns on asacol and prevacid.  He is doing well and has occasional episodes that keep him out of school.  My family has crohn history.  Strangely my husband has been diagnosed with auto-immune thrombocytopenia dn neutropenia, with joint pain, fatigue and mouth ulcers.  He has "episodes" too and both father and son have very similar red watery eyes, increased fatigue  and joint pain,s they describe as deep muscle aches.  My husband doesn't have GI symptoms, my sone doesn't have blood symptoms. Any idea, could they be related?  Noone has any idea what kind of autoimmune disease my husband has.  We don't even know where to go for help.  Should we try a geneticist or rheumatologist?

BTW, if you haven't already, I suggest you get your son on a good multi probiotic for kids, and when he has episodes try putting him on a natural sugar free diet, possibly wheat and dairy free might help too.

Wheat, dairy, sugar, processed foods seem to be common triggers/aggravators for CD.

Some Moms try their kids on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (there is also the Maker's Diet) with success.

Aww hugs to your son. I always hate hearing little ones suffering with the disease. Your husband kinda sounds like it might be Crohns or Celiac, I think he should look to getting more tests. I live on a low residue diet myself, and it works best for me. I kinda think it would be hard to get a kid that young to follow the SCD or Makers diets as they are quite restrictive and have to be followed to the letter to work properly. Glad to see you at least have him on the low fiber. Hugs!
