Well I have to tell you that you can expect some tests to be run. I am sure the first will be a colonoscopy. Depending on what that shows you could also have other tests done too. And I would expect some blood work along with it. With the colonoscopy the worst part of it is the prep, the test is usually pretty easily as you are sedated for it. Greyeyedblonde, i was diagnosed with IBS when i was 16, but when i was opening my bowels, i would go sort of 3 days with diarrhea, then about 4 days without going at all, which has never been like me. really bad abdo cramps, stools are always mucousy recently, i had to send in a stool sample and that came back all clear.
I am just having alot of problems with my bowels, which isnt usual of my IBS, so i just want to get to the bottom of what it is :(

They will probably do lots of blood work, fecal occult blood test (will show if there was actual blood in your stool), colonoscopy,endoscopy, upper gi series with small bowel follow-through, stool samples. If they want you to do a colonoscopy tell them you want the miralax gatorade prep. It's the easiest prep of them all and doesn't taste awful like the others. Also hopefully they won't do a rectal exam like one person said. I have never had one done ever and would probably die if they asked for one.

grayeblonde - Not a darn clue why anyone would want to stick a finger up there. I always wonder why the GI picked that for a job when there are many other things he could do. I'm on my 4th GI and not one stick there finger up there. Even after telling them I think I have hemmroids they didn't check. I didn't want them to but figured maybe they would have to. I guess I better knock on some wood now so my next appt I don't get a special treat.
