Scheduled for Ileocecectomy Soon - Many Questions

I am sceduled soon for a laproscopic ileocecectomy and I guess at this point I am concerned about having the ileocecal valve removed.  I read on the internet that that valve plays a very important role in digestion.  That is keeps the food amd bacteria moving downward as it should.  I do not have Crohn's but am having this surgery for removal of a flat sessile polyp that is now benign but is a type that could possibly turn to cancer.  My Dad died at 57 due to colon cancer.  He had no tests prior to his diagnosis due to fear.  I wished that there had been a topic under "Diseases & Conditions" for Removal of Polyps.  But I read this one entry that the gal was having the ileocecectomy due to CD and gained some info from that but the entry was over 2 years old.  Will my bowel habits go back to normal as my surgeon has said they would?  How long does that take roughly? Can anyone help me with these questions? Thanks so much in advance!!

Boy, that's not what the surgeon tells me about getting back to normal, he says I will.  I will question him more on that.  It just seems like a person would need the ileocecal valve for normal digestion.  I do want the benign sessile polyp out since the surgeon feels its the type that can turn bad.  Too bad its so high in my colon that he feels the need to take that valve out as well.  He said we don't need that valve and my bowels habits would go back to normal.  Thanks, I appreciate your response!

I had mine removed, I had ALOT of diarrhea also Nanners mine did stop, but its still not the consistency It used to be thats one thing I noticed, it isn't terrible though :)

Ruthy, how long did it take to get over the diarrhea?
