I crave sugar like there is no tomorrow, and for a long while that is all I ate to have energy to make it through the day. I have been starting to feel a little better over the past few days, thank God, and find myself going right to the sugar. I am noticing that I am getting pains and my stomach is rumbling after I injest candy. Does this happen to anyone else? If I have to give up sugar, this could be the hardest challenge of my life....but I guess it would be worth it in the end. I guess I could always do a trial run, but with next week being finals, this could get interesting.

You sound just like me. I used to seriously crave sugar and the sweetest stuff. More sugary than chocolate, skittles, circus peanuts, laffy taffy and so on. From my own personal research I think I had a Candida issue with my Crohn's. I feel much better if I don't eat any refined sugar and when I do my stomach does gurgle and sometimes I get pains.
Craving sugar is a sign of Candida. A lot of folks on here have felt better after following a low sugar/ no sugar diet, anti-fungal diet, ect.

Thanks for the info! It was really helpful. I have looked into the Candida thing. I had never heard of this before. Sent my doc an email asking what he thinks...hopefully this is the answer we have been searching for.

Hmmmmmm, when was the last time you had your blood sugar tested ? Just because you have crohns doesn't mean you are not diabetic ...Trust me, I know...

I had blood work done right before thanksgiving, and have more scheduled for next week. Doc said everything looked ok, I assume he would have said something...

I feel as if I'm reading about
myself! Sometimes, when I feel really bad, the only thing that seems to help and settle my stomach is sugar. And then, yes, within a few hours, my stomach is gurgling and groaning--and I get the world's most intense heartburn. The heartburn (for which I now have prescript
ion pills) is bad enough to keep me from overindulging. I'm not diabetic--but I'm very curious as to why something sugary seems to make my stomach feel better when I'm feeling bad. Weird.

I have bad sugar cravings as well. I try to limit them best as I am able. But there comes a time, especially on my days off, that I start to feel a bit shaky, and light headed if I don't eat some candy. Talked to the GI and he said go with it (my blood work is awesome and so is my heart) because it was something my body was obviously craving. I have to admit I would have lost lots more weight if I didn't have so many of these calories coming in. But still, I weigh less now than I did about
12 years ago. I also realize each of us have our own health issues. But the sugar may not necessarily be a bad thing.
