Have had all the pre-op tests, meetings with surgeons and anesthesia for my pelvic organ reconstructive surgery. On Thursday the surgeon calls my GI and asks if I have to have a "clean" stool sample - meaning one free of C. diff. I did 2 weeks of Xifaxan as ordered by my GI. He knew my surgery was on the 14th. I asked his nurse to ask him if I needed a follow-up sample but never heard back.
The GI said he wants me free of C. diff before they operate. They aren't cutting into my bowel or anything. But they are going to adhere to his wish. Friday I ran another stool sample down to the lab. Now I wait.
I am trying to organize things for a surgery I may or may not have. My 85 yr old mother's needs are also a factor in this. I also have to do bowel prep tomorrow and don't wish to start that if I'm not having surgery.
Normally I'm calm and handle stressful situations well. I literally feel like I am going to jump out of my skin.
The one excellent thing I can report is that I do NOT have a fistula to my bladder. The cystoscopy was not too painful but it sure is a weird feeling to pee cold liquid afterward. Think about that one....LOL.
Thanks for listening. I'll let you know if my poop was clean.
