Welcome - sorry you need to be here but you will get lots of support and help and many different perspectives.
My son is 15 now and was diagnosed when he was 10. As you can see from my signature he has been through a lot of different treatments. It finally took Humira to get him into remission but we tried a lot of other things first. Not sure I would do it that way again but hindsight ...
I'd prefer not to offer my opinion on whether Remicade seems appropriate without more info. It's not an easy or straightforward decision and there are a number of alternatives that may be worth considering. There are reasons to go straight to Remicade too. Depends on the clinical situation, you and your son's values/life experiences and other things like how badly CD is affecting his quality of life.
So I have some questions that will help me answer your questions without shooting from the hip.
Are you working with a pediatric GI who specializes in treating IBD?
How bad is his growth/weight failure - what percentiles if you know them? If you don't know and feel comfortable sharing, I can tell you the % if I know his height, weight and age.
How long has he experienced growth failure?
What do you know about
the extent and severity of his intestinal disease - ulceration, stricturing, fistulas, inflammation, perianal disease?
And, as PV asked, what diagnostic procedures were used to figure out what's going on in his intestines?
Do you know if he was tested for Celiac?
Did the GI propose any alternative treatment(s) should you decide against Remicade?
You may want to check out Dragonpack - a forum especially for parents of kids with IBD. It is not a HW forum. The woman who runs DP singlehandedly has a son who's been very ill. It may take a little while for you to get on the board so you can post. But you can read all the recent posts. Feel free to e-mail me if you'd like me to post something for you on DP or anything else you'd like to ask/discuss.
