Barium

All the fluid preps we take for tests upset my gut, but after a few days Im back to normal (whatever normal is lol) Jo

both ct scan and sbft barium give me diarrhea. (it looked like someone threw white paint in the toilet!) but then again, everything gives me diarrhea :(

it stops me up like a cork, but I have heard of folks having D. I have to guzzle MOM all the way home after drinking it :)

Just had the sbft. Yeah, the barrium gave me explosive diarrhea, about an hour after my test was done. The doctor ordered this test because my colonoscopy showed something that looks like Crohn's in the ileum/ileocecal valve and wanted to know if it is anywhere in my small intestine, so I guess that's where this test is applicable.

It depends on how I'm feeling before as to how it'll affect me. If I'm having symptoms of an obstruction, I have to take laxatives to get it all out. If I'm having a lot of D before, it shoots right through me.

It also depends on which type of barium is used for the test. Some of them are thinner, while others are super thick, and that changes how they go through you sometimes.

There are two kinds. The thicker one is barium and when your test is pre-scheduled that's the one they give me and it gives me d within an hour of taking it. I'm still having d in the morning when I'm scheduled for the CT scan. However, now I know to ask for the quick prep. That is thinner and you get that one when you are already in the hospital and they want you to go for a CT scan in a few hours. That one is better than the thick one for me so now I just go in two hours before my CT scan and take the quick prep and avoid the thicker one altogether.

I was having a small bowel series and was sitting in the waiting room with some other guys. They separated us into two groups, one for upper and the second for lower. They called this guy in our upper group for a lower. He started arguing with the Tech. She said she had the order. So off he went Wearing a thing hospital gown. On his way out of the room he griping to her, "I told you I could hold that much", and squirt, squirt, squirt down the hall.

I have always had a loose movement after a small bowel series. Barium did nothing to even slow down the movement.
