anyone takin Blood thinners (Warfarin)?

They are going to prescribe them to me for  my newly diagnosed a fib condition.  I am on remicade right now, which has gotten my last flare under control once they upped the dosage to 10.  I spoke to my GI, and he said there were no drug interactions between the warfarin and remicade but he knows about the hear issues.  At this point stopping a possible stroke takes priority over remicade. ALl 3 of my doctors are in agreement with that.  He said that he would not change the remicade right now as i am tolerating it well and have reocverd from that flare.  he will watch me closely along with the EP Cardiologist.  The good thing is they share records electronically (owned by same hospital) so each know what the other is doing.

Blood tested showed slight dehydration along with slight anemia (hemoglobin number of 11.4. Also white blood count was low.  I am having blood work again next week.

Is anyone out there with the same treatments?  any advice or info you can share is appreciated.

I had blood clots go to my lungs, so I was on warfarin for 6 months, and any time I'm in the hospital (for obstructions or anything else) I have to be given blood thinners. I have to take low dose aspirin now, and will have to the rest of my life.

It's stressful at first, but you learn as you go. Toward the end of my 6 months of being on warfarin, I didn't think about it so much, and once you get to a therapeutic level, it's easier to maintain than at first. I think the first month or so is the stressful part, trying to get to a level and you and your doctor trying to figure out doseage, then it gets easier.

Oh, and I also recommend getting a med alert bracelet with your name and "coumadin" or whatever med you're on, so in case of emergency they know you're on blood thinners.

Also, I was on Humira when I was on coumadin and had no problems with the 2 interacting at all. I also have a close friend who dealt with the same thing, and was on Cimzia at the time, and she didn't have problems with the meds interacting either.

I take Plavix and aspirin. I'm bleeding now, but don't feel it's a flare. Terrible pain to the joints. Had open heart 1 1/2 yrs ago. Aortic Aneurysm, Aortic Valve replaced and 1 bipass. Taking a bunch of meds. You just have to watch yourself. Dr.s are too busy to watch ya. First sign of anything, get to the doctor.

thanks Becky and Rojon. I have another heart stress test on Monday. third one in 2 months. trying to rule out hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. then the dialing in of the meds. If I have HCM, it might be fixable with surgery which would mean blood thinners for just a few months, not rest of my life like they are talking right now. I like the idea of a med braclet. my Dr had suggested it prior to this since I take so many meds like you Rojon.

I was just Dx'd w/A fib in August. I'm on Imuran and Pentasa for Crohn's and on coumadin to hopefully prevent clots plus Diltiazem and Rythmol for the A fib. *sigh* A walking pharmacy. But no more A fib since adding the Rythmol.

I was laid up (temporarily paralyzed) for about a month in the hospital and rehab. I was just coming off Remicade at the time, and was getting the warfarin injections every day in the hospital for the entire month. No issues.

That stuff scares me.... Although it amazes me what they use on ppl and animals. Alot of the same stuff.

I was just in the hospital a week ago because it was discovered that I had a fib. I was put on a heparin drip and the cardiologist started me on Cardizem. My rhythm converted on its own on New Year's Eve. I was released New Year's Day. I am not on any blood thinners now at home; however, I remember my cardiologist mentioning that I would be taking one for about 4-6 weeks after I got out of the hospital. I am still on 60 mg of Cardizem twice a day. I'm planning on asking about the blood thinner when I follow-up with the cardiologist on the 17th of this month.

cant take oral meds like that, not enough guts,, had to do 6 months of shots in the belly ..ouch , after my clot episode..

Geeze, atctackett!!! 60 mg of cardizem 2 x daily??? I'm going to have to look up the strength comparison of cardizem vs its generic, Diltiazem. 'Cause I was STARTED on 120 mg of Diltiazem 2 x daily. My longest "event" only lasted 3-4 hours then converted on its own. ALL of my A fib "events" have converted on their own.

I wasn't keen on taking Rythmol in additon to the Diltiazem and coumadin but by cracky I haven't had an "event" since just a day or so after starting the Rythmol. I was on a 21 day event monitor prior to and during the addition of Rythmol so we know it wasn't a matter of my just not being aware of some events.

I am also on Warfarin. I was diagnosed with a blood clot near my liver and a week later was diagnosed with Crohn's. I recently had an ultrasound and they saw that the clot is no longer there so, I can stop my blood thinner in another month or so. (they want me on it a total of 6 months)

They believe the Crohn's is probably what caused the clot. The dr's say as long as I am being treated 'aggressively' for the Chrohn's, I should be ok. Usually clots are found in the leg and it was extremely rare (and lucky) that they happened to find this clot while looking at my gall bladder for my stomach upset!

I have a fib issues too, but I think mine is much milder. I ONLY get afib problems when I throw up forcefully. I did do Coumadin for a few months after my biggest 2 a fib events, but I never stayed on it longterm, as I said I only get these events whenever I throw up forcefully. I do take Dialtiazem 2 x's day, and my afib events all converted on their own too. Haven't had a afib event in a long time. Hugs!
