81mg Asprin and Crohn's Disease

They wanted me on 81 mg aspirin after a surgery a few years back. Tried it but it stirred up my acid reflux really bad, so I had to stop it. Good luck!

I asked my new gastro if I could take aspirin.  (I'd heard one who has Crohn's shouldn't take it.)  He said it was OK, then paused and asked if I was taking it for my heart.  I said no, only for  headaches or other occaisional pain.

He then so no, don't take it, use Tylenol.

I've always preferred aspirin.  I don't think acetemetiphan is as effective.

I absolutely can not believe your Dr put you on aspirin! It can actually put you in a flare because of irritation to the intestine wall..lets hope you never have a g.i. bleed because as you know aspirin thins the blood, it would put you in a very dangerous place. I actuallly list Aspirn and Ibprofen as allergies..

If you have risk factors, the risks associated with taking low dose aspirin are far less than the other things that can happen. Heart problems, blood clots, MIAs are all valid reasons to take low dose aspirin. I would far rather take aspirin (low dose) than risk having blood clots go to my lungs again.

If you don't have a reason to take it though, you should avoid it, as well as avoiding nsaids. Long term aspirin or ibuprofen has the potential to cause problems such as stomach bleeding and ulcers...especially if you're taking a normal dose of aspirin.

Keep in mind that the dose used to treat problems such as clots and heart problems is 81mg, whereas the normal dose is 325mg per pill.

It'll be such a relief to be off coumadin! I was so happy when I made it 6 months and got to switch to low dose aspirin. Best of luck to you Pamywyner!
