Denied Health Insurance??

Has anyone on here been denied health Insurance because of there Crohns?? I tried to get Blue Cross Blue Shield and I was denied Anyone have any ideas who I should try next? This is so frustrating!

Do you go to school? Some universities offer their students or alumni the chance to buy insurance. Snivler is correct about most states having already started their highrisk pools and that will be your best option. Otherwise, you will have to wait until the healthcare laws to take full effect to where they can not deny you due to a pre-existing condition. Another option would be for you or your spouse (if you are married)to get hired by a larger corporation that has a group policy that accepts everyone.

As far as I know; yes. And, as I've said, the public system is free anyway.

GDen, I would remind you that you have already asked me about this (and multiple times) in the past and that I have answered (again, multiple times).

This is *Stephanie's* post, about *Stephanie's* problems. Given that she had the crying icon in her subject line, it sounds as if she needs some support and help and maybe even some sympathy to me. How about we remember the purpose of this thread, and this forum, and stay on topic, please?

I asked my mom if insurance could deny me and brother because we both have Crohn's and she said they couldn't do that anymore.

Maybe because we are still dependents? Or maybe it varies by state?

I don't know I'm young and the whole thing confuses me. But I guess I should start learning.

Thank you all for your replies. It is so frustrating that health insurance companies deny coverage for Crohns! I will check out AZ High Risk Pool. Just isn't fair since we never asked for this stupid disease. Sorry having a Monday morning pity party

Steph - have you been on insurance lately? If you've had something up until now, it should count as "credible coverage" where you can be accepted for insurance without a pre-existing condition clause.

Or is there another insurance company that would take you with a pre-existing condition clause?

When I was finishing grad school, I couldn't COBRA my insurance but the insurance company I was with had this HMO insurance for people who got denied for the other insurance plans...the cost was HIGH and it had like 50% copay on meds but covered tests, doctors visits, etc. Maybe you could inquire to some insurance agents about programs like that.

Otherwise, the high risk pool is a good thing to get into. But in my state, you need proof you've been denied by other insurances and it's a 6 month wait.

I was laughing with a friend because I should get married to someone who needs a green card in exchange for insurance for me! If only it was so simple...

I'm in a similar situation Steph. I had to apply through a state program as a last resort. I've exhausted COBRA already, and it's my last hope. If I don't get it, I'll have to wait until I'm uninsured for 6 months and then apply for the federal program.

I hate to hear anyone else is in the same boat as me, insurance wise. I hope you find something through your state!

Steph...alas, I live in AZ too...just did some research for you...it seems that there is no "high risk" pool in AZ...I am luck that my husband works for the state of Arizona, so I get pretty good insurance (as the pay is pretty horrid)

steph13, i guess my other post got yanked, so ill try a differant tack, you must keep up with finacial news. california is bankrupt and i bet they are not signing up anymore people for medical programs. they are giving IOU's to state employees instead of paychecks.. we here in Washigton , our Governor and the legislature just proposed elinating the states basic health plan altogether over the weekend because our state is heading for bankruptcy also. so no matter where you go its going to be the same.

I heard Kaiser is the only one who will insure people with existing conditions and that *may* or may not cover you and it will be expensive and not great coverage. Then again, aren't all private plans kind of low benefit? I could never find a reasonable one that made sense. It is always a high deductible or high % pay + high copays and no brand name drug coverage. It almost makes more sense to get the cheapest insurance possible for major accident and pay for drs and drugs out of pocket. drugs are pretty reasonable if you order them from Canada. Drs will make deals with you if you're a cash client. Sorry, went off topic a bit but the point is, I don't see a point in paying $600-700 for Kaiser. not having insurance can definitely backfire if you are ever hospitalized. When i was uninisured, I would have died before paying for hospital bills. Luckily my significant other has good insurance through his job and I was able to get on their plan.

Endeavor, the new nationwide health care law is being implemented in stages. One of the first stages, implemented in 2010, is making sure children younger than age 18 are not denied health care coverage because of pre-existing conditions.  Also, children can now remain on their parent's health care policies until age 26.

By the time you are 26, another phase of the new health care law will have kicked in, which consists of ensuring that no adult is denied because of a pre-existing condition.
