IBD Treatment w/Promising New Probiotic ???

Northwestern Medicine researchers deleted a gene in the probiotic and fed the new form to mice with two different models of colitis. After 13 days of treatment, the novel probiotic strain nearly eliminated colon inflammation in the mice and halted progression of their disease by 95 percent.

The study was published Jan. 31 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Current drug treatment is not completely effective and patients can relapse. Such gene targeting in a probiotic bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus offers the possibility of a safe, drug-free treatment in the near future. The next step will be a clinical trial with the new form of Lactobacillus acidophilus.

Sorry for the questions back to you, but I want to make sure I am understanding your situation correctly.

I am not sure what you mean by "doses of IBD,"  does that mean you want to know what are the dosages of medication for IBD (because it does vary alot depending a couple of different factors)?

Do you know if you have crohns or Ulcertive Colitis (which are two of the IBD's) ?

Does "motions" mean diarrhea?

Just to let you know that IBD medications can take months to reach effectiveness.  Have you asked your doctor about taking something like loperamide (which is not without risk), but it might help you slow down your guts for right now.  I do not know if it is availible in  India where I assume you are from (due to the name of mesacol, which is also called mesalazine).

I've tried to eat yogurt off and on for the past two decades.  Just couldn't stand the taste of it enough to even finish a container.  However, both of my children eat and drink it like it is their favorite dessert, and have since they were younger than 1.  It started with the baby yogurts and the drinkable yogurts.  We have to bribe my 2-yr-old with yogurt many nights to eat other food for supper.  It's crazy. 

So, I decided to try it again last month.  The kids are currently on Yoplait Splitz.  It's supposed to taste like ice cream (they have sherbet, strawberry sundae, and strawberry/banana favors.)  Well, it obviously doesn't...but it doesn't taste quite as bad as I recall.  I've eaten 1-2 3oz servings a day, and just recently switched to the traditional strawberry flavored yogurt.  It's not delightful, but it isn't appalling any more either.  I'm aiming for 1-2 6oz servings per day.  We'll see how long that lasts.
