New around here

Hey everyone I stumble upon this site about a week ago and I have learned so much! I'm 28 and "most likely" (GI's words) have cd. In 9/2010 I had severe abd pain with vomiting and was dx with terminal ileitis. My insurance kicked in last month, so off to the GI I went. I had a colonoscopy on valentine's day (what a great present) and my ascending colon was too inflammed to pass the scope through. I am taking Pentasa 4000mg/day and Flagyl 750mg/day. I am also on a liquid diet until I go back to the GI next month. Hopefully then I will have a real dx. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

I've had some improvement. After the scope I had nausea, vomiting, and constipation for a few days. That's gone now, but the pain (3-5 on a 1-10 scale), mild fevers, and fatigue is still there. Compared to what it was last september, I'll take it. I called about the pain, but my GI wants to give the Pentasa more time to work. I'm still not sure I like her.

Pentasa needs 2-4 weeks to REALLY get rolling.  Very surprised with that much inflammation you weren't given Entocort. or pred.  Although the Ento is way expensive.

Hello and welcome too! I too am surprised you were not given prednisone for the inflammation until the pentasa kicks in. I am also on a liquid diet at the moment and it stinks!

Prednisone would let you know if the narrowing is inflammation or scar tissue. If it is inflammation then once you get that under control and get on to maintenance medication you should be doing better. If it is scar tissue then no medication will help it go away and you may have to consider surgery or permanent diet changes depending on how much narrowing you have. But steroids are the quickest way to determine if it is active disease or not.
