Endeavor- Map- Micobacterium Avium subspecies Paratuberculosis. It is a bacteria found in cattle that suffer from the same symptoms as Crohn's. In cattle this is called Johne's disease. there is a theory that this bacteria is the cause of Crohn's in
some people. the bacteria is hard to detect and hard to culture. anti-MAP is a combination of three (or four) antibiotics taken together. because the bacteria is resistant unless it is reproducing, and it has a very slow reproduction rate, the drugs are taken long term(years). the tests are expensive, and often inconclusive. the drugs are off patent, so there is not a pile of money to be made by the pharmaceuticals, so there are no trials going on large scale. the research is small so it is hard to get hard data. Personally,as a layman and a dad, I like the theory.
