Update on ANTI-MAP therapy

My doc added Cipro to the mix this week. Now I am on : Clarithromycin, Ethanbutanol, Cipro and Rifampin. All of my side effects seem to have subsided as of now with the latest being acne and yeast. Both seem to be working themselves out with lots of good skin care, OTC creams and yogurt.  In my most recent visits to the doctors (infectious and gastro), they've indicated that they are seeing good results in many with one man having "miraculous" results. They said to give it at least 6 mos. to notice improvement. When asked about MAP, my gastro indicated that he doesn't know if its MAP or another bacteria--as if he thinks Crohn's could be a bacterial infection but not necessarily totally related to MAP.  Both docs also indicated that they just do not know who will respond well to treatment with antibiotics and who will not. Keeping my fingers crossed. 

TARA-how are you doing? Anything to report?  All of my Crohn's symptoms are the same as they ever were but I'm not "flaring" right now based on blood work.

Anyone else trying this therapy?

Bob--I just slowed down and read your complete signature line--should have done that prior to last post. I see that it is your son suffering. I don't see much about it on here, but Xifaxan has worked wonders for me. I take 550 mg. of it once a day (usually before I go to bed) and take a probiotic once a day and do fairly well in terms of quality of life. I have long mornings and occassional bad days but overall function well. It pains me to think of children with this disease. Best wishes to you and your son.
(Doc prescribes 550 twice a day but I found that it bloated and constipated me, so I adjusted with decent results.)
