Does anyone break up the 6MP and take half in the morning and half at night? I'm really struggling with this drug. I've only taken it 2 nights and this morning I could barely open my eyes (which were horribly blood shot), I have a fever, and my gut felt more inflamed than usual. I am taking anti-biotics for a UTI, so it could have something to do with it too, but I feel like 6MP just doesn't like me :(

Have you asked your doctor about waiting a week to start taking the 6mp until the UTI clears up? That way you are taking a new drug w/o other issues going on and can determine whether the side effects are from the drug or the UTI.

When first beginning the med there will be side effects. But hang on they should be getting better soon. The antibiotics could be making you sick too, they always do me. They make me really sick to my stomach, and have more d than normal. Hugs!

The only thing I worry about is inflammation of the pancreas, but having said that, I think it would take
more than a coup;e of doses. Check in with your doc. You have two conflicting things going on here!!

Yeah, I'm not sure:( I think the UTI isn't helping anything at all. I forgot to mention I had a pounding headache about an hour after I took it and when I woke up this morning.

Since I had reacted to Imuran, I asked my GI if we could start super slow on the 6MP. So I took half a pill (25mg) for a few nights and then a whole pill (50mg), and we just stepped it up in slow increments. I had some nausea and headaches for maybe two weeks. It was all pretty tolerable, and it's been a month now and I don't have the nausea or headaches anymore.

Oh awesome! Thanks for letting me know. I was thinking of doing the same thing. So it's ok to break it in half and take it like that? I was also thinking of maybe doing half in the morning and half at night when I start the whole 50mg's again.

Dana - with respect to breaking the pills in half, that is what I have to do because my script is for 75mg/day and they only come in 50 mg tablets. So I take 1 and 1/2 tab each day. They seem to break fairly easily, but sometimes the break is a little disproportiant. I believe that pharmacies or maybe even your insurance company provide pill splitters so you can cut them in half more evenly.
