 I have a question if anyone can shed any light on this I would appreciate it. I have crohns disease and have had it for almost 30 years. My boyfriend who we are sexually active has recently developed staph infection and is very sick. Ive been told it could be due to me having crohns is this possible.  Ive not spoken to my dr about this yet. I have an appointment next week but meanwhile my boyfriend is hospitalized with staph. confused   They have suggested it, the Doctor he has and Im feeling so bad about this whole thing...

That seems a completely weird thing to say.  Crohn's is not a bacterial illness.  Staph infections are very common.  How in the world can anyone say that your Crohn's caused your boyfriend's infection???

I agree with both of the above, I do not think you caused your bf's infection. Big hugs to you, I am sorry some dumb doctor made you feel bad. Gentle hugs!

Had MRSA staaph for 2 yrs and have Crohns, he could not have gotten it from you but you are more suseptiple to it because of your weakened immune system. He could have gotten it from anywhere but I know how you feel.. When I had it I was sexually active and then just crawled into a hole. they did every antibiotic on me, pic lines, vancomyacin, bleach baths, hibacleanse (which finally worked) DO NOt blame yourseld just because you have Crohns everything is not yur fault! Relax and support your boyfriend from a distance, if he is blaming you have the doctor explain to him that unless you were a carrier he could not get it!

Staph infection is everywhere and everyone has it on their bodies at all times. Most of the times our immune system will fight it before it even begins to infect us. Sometimes the staph infection is able to infiltrate our bodies through a cut or most commonly the nasal cavity. That is where we begin to get sick.
There are multiple forms of Staph infection and I am fighting it all the time. I have one form of it call foliculitis that I have had for years and it shows up in the form of small sores or red swellings around the hairs on my body. I have had a few of them develop into a form a MRSA and become huge boils and abscess and that was one of the worst experiences of my life. It left an ulcer on my rear the size of a fifty cent piece and a hole big enough for my to stick the end of my thumb in. I had to be treated lik ljb stated. I also developed staph infection after a few of my surgeries that required hospitalizations. I feel for your boyfriend because it can be a long road to recovery.
As for you passing it on to him because of your disease, that is a terrible thing for the doctor to say. Were you showing any signs of the disease? How did the doctor say you passed it on to him? Even sexually, it would be very difficult to pass to a person with a normal immune system. Don't blame yourself and realize that he could have picked it up anywhere. He may have touched his face or inner part of his nose(guys pick their noses all the time) after touching a surface with the Staph and then contracted it. Let us know how he is doing and I hope that you are watching for signs of it on you. It is very contagious and if you are on immunosuppressants or TNF inhibitors, you are prones to these infections. I would also go and lysol the heck out of your home and cars to make sure that you living space is clean.

agreee with tsitdawg, i used bleach on everything as instructed.it harbores in the nasal cavitie and the nails so cut them..a small cap full of bleach in the bath will help alot, take tsitodawg advice the doctor does not know what he is talking about, find another doctor. I actually had one acuse me of haveing AIDS! Just remember you had nothing to do with this!
