Sore on perianal abscess scar

I am new on this forum and am really glad to stumble upon it a few months ago! It has been a godsend and absolutely reassuring to know that I am not alone.

Firstly, I have not been diagnosed with Crohn's nor do I know if I have an anal fistula, however, I had a massive perianal abscess (the doctors told me that it was the size of a tennis ball) a month or so ago and had it 'excavated' on the 27/Feb. The scar was healing fine (have been doing regular sitz baths), in fact it closed over nicely - until recently ...

I have been experiencing bouts of semi-constipation (and have been bleeding a bit from my anus (fresh red blood) - I do have haemorrhoids and passing motion does hurt from time to time) and have now noticed some rawness (it does leave a very small trace of blood on a piece of gauze that I have plastered over it), as well as a blister like structure on the scar . It does not feel as though I am having a recurrence of the abscess (no throbbing whatsoever), although I do feel some hardness around the area near the scar. Also, I do walk a lot and am wondering if that could have contributed to the rawness.

Anyway, this is freaking me out and I was wondering if anyone has any information, experience, advise or feedback about this.

I think I would run this past your doc to make sure the abcess is not trying to act up again. Sorry not more help. Hugs!

I had a perirectal abscess July last year. It was the size of 2 twinkies under the skin. Drained with rubber drains left in for a week. It healed beautifully and quickly with just a bit of discomfort in that area when I sat in certain positions. Then 6 weeks later I had a small amount of drainage from an area that was not related to the abscess area. It was an inch or so farther over from where one of the drain incissions was. Unfortunately it was a fistula that had formed. 50% of all perirectal abscesses cause fistulas. I was part of the unlucky 50%. Go to your Dr and make him/her look at the area closely... sometimes they are very hard to find. My second fistual I went back to the surgeon 6 times befor he finally found a very very small opening.. just enough to make a tiny spot on a gause pad.

Of Course I can't be sure because I'm not a doctor but it sounds like you're developing a fistula. I remember after I had an abscess drained I would feel the area and it would be hard and sometimes feel grainy under the skin and I would be afraid of getting another abscess and when I would push on it, it would leak pus from a small hole I later learned was a fistula. So you should go to your doctor to make sure it's not a fistula or another abscess forming.

Many thanks for all the feedback! I feel a lot better and the scar is looking less angry today - although it is still rather sensitive.
Am seeing the GP tomorrow to get an evaluation of the wound, perhaps she'll refer me to the colorectal clinic.

Hello again!
So here's the low down from the GP - it seems that it is a superficial thing and may be an infection on the scar or a minor abscess. She can't tell whether or not there is a fistula and have put me on a week's worth of Augmentin. Since yesterday, the nasty blister-like structure is back. Doesn't look like there's any pus there, nor is it red around the ages, just irritated where the bubble is. Ugh!

Ah yes, Abscess and Fistulas!

Sometimes the wound can heal to quickly and then BAM! Another Abscess. Other times, like mine, it could be a Fistula. I had three abscesses in the EXACT same place so I kinda knew it was a fistula after doing some research online. Went in for an EUA and woke up with TWO rubber bands sticking out of my bum! lol

Very painful for about 10 days but can't feel a thing now. :)

Updates :

So I have now finished my course of Augmentin - no effect whatsoever on this sore/blistery structure.
Have then gone back to the GP (a different doctor this time) - he was more patient and took his time to inspect my surgical scar and sore. According to him, there's a significant amount of scar tissue around the wound and he was trying to find the opening to what might be a fistula - to no avail. He than came to 2 conclusions : either it is a fistula OR a superficial infection (perhaps linked to Staphylococcus aureus - which is quite common with butt related infections). I have then been prescribed with another round of antibiotics (Flucloxacillin this time, instead of the broad spectrum Augmentin). The chemical warfare continues .... joy of joys!

I am currently having the same problem! I had a fistula laid open and an abscess drained, and it has been about 6 months from my surgery. My scar feels very hard and painful, and when I pressed on it, it bled out of what I assume is still the last remnants of the fistula that has not healed yet. The problems never end! :-( I have no idea what it means or why it is doing it.

I'm new to the site but need some input. My husband does not have health insurance because it is so expensive. He is overweight and is diabetic. I haven't found a kind doctor in all of my area who would take him on a sliding scale. I dearly love my husband and don't want to see his health decline any further. However, we have a new issue. For a while, he bleeds from his rectum. Then he loses weight and it stops. He recently took a new job where he sits all day and has gained back about 30 of the 57 lbs. he lost. We've been together two years and about 1 1/2 years ago, he told me when he has a bowel movement he bleeds. He says most of the time it's fresh and red, but sometimes with black mixed in. He's always hungry, thirsty and can be extremely moody. Now I know all that can be chalked up to the diabetes, but he says he passes clots. Now this has worried me for quite a while. But since he'd lost weight and was not having a problem, I put it behind me. Last night, when I was coming to bed, I said, "Baby, you have blood between your legs. Did you just go to the bathroom." He said that he had just come from the bathroom and past clots and lots of blood. Here is the thing, my husband has a bowel movement about 10x a day - no exaggeration. It's always diarrhea so he has no reason to push hard. But as I lay down to clean him last night, I found the blood was not coming from his rectum but from underneath his testicle sack. There is a hard spot in the skin right between where the testicles end and the anus begins. It had a small hole that was leaking tons of blood. It took me like an hour to get the bleeding stopped. Now my husband is very macho and proud. He was very depressed that I had to get in there and look at that very private part of him. As I got the bleeding stopped and I looked further to see if there were any more bloody spots, I discovered several tears in the skin around the rectum which I believe are called fischers and they can bleed horribly, but I also found what seem to be like small boils - many of them around the anus and what looked like an anal skin tag. I have had fischers so I know how badly they can bleed but I've never had clots. Now I'm wondering if he's mistaking blood-covered feces for blood clots or if it's really blood clots and what the hell those boil-like things are. I've looked up fistulas, anal warts and anal skin tags. It doesn't look like any of those things. Anyone have any clues or suggestions for me.
