Remicade, how long before it won't work,

Starting remicade soon. Hoping for positive results to heal fistulas. If it does work, how long does the average person stay on remicade before it is no longer effective?

Some people on here have being on it for 10 years. It really does vary from person to person. Sorry for the vague answer.

hey, some do great, I did pretty good, no fistulsa, but just to control inflammation. lots have ben on for years, some get bad reations, don't last 1 or 2 infusions, I started to feel better after 1 infusion, then better after 2 and so forth. I'm changing to asacol, rem inflammed it down, will see. good luck to you

I felt better right away and lasted about a year and a half.  I wasn't on any other meds so I don't know if this contributed to my short time.  There have been people on this for 10+ years so don't focus so much on how long will it work.  Just focus on the present and enjoy it working now.

4th infuision so far...all good..just get wicked headaches the day after..but thats it

Thank you all for the information provided. First infusion is Friday, April 15, 2011. Tax day...don't know which will be worse!

I believe tax filing day has been pushed to April 18 this year, so if you want to split them up, you don't have to tackle both on the same day! :-)

I was on Remicade successfully for 7 years (from 1999-2006.)

I was on it for 6 years before it was no longer doing its job by that time I was also premedicating for allergic side effects etc and was getting 1 extra vial even though my weight suggested less and I was at one time getting it 8 weeks apart but found I needed it every 6 to also aid with my joint pain. I now use Humira weekly instead and for me it has worked better for my gut than remi had and done more for my joints too

I have been on Remicade for about a year and a half.  Felt better after the first IV.  I hear it can last a few month to years, so I am just counting my blessings while it lasts.  I am on no other meds with the IV.  It is a nice relief from the 15+ pills a day I was taking.
