Hey everyone,

I am new on the site and so excited about being on here and having ppl to talk to.

I am on remicade and wanting to start planning for another child soon.  Can anyone tell me if they know if this drug is safe in pregnancy, had a baby on it, not safe etc...

I would love to hear any feedback anyone has!!!

Do a search through old posts. Many, many women have safely taken this drug throughout pregnancies and have healthy kids (not just babies any more it's been used so long) as a result. The main restriction is to stop infusions at a certain point in the third trimester. Before then it doesn't really cross the placenta.

I have had one remicade baby and she is now 9 months old.  She is very healthy and at her last appointment she weighed 22lbs and was almost 30 inches long.  So, she is growing just fine:)

I timed my remicade treatments so that I had the last one before birth between 32-34 weeks.  Much later then that and then the medicine crosses over into the placenta.  I would talk to your GI and your OB.  Make sure that they both feel you are healthy enough for pregnancy.  They should be in contact through out your pregnancy keeping an eye on you.

I have 2 & 1/3 remicade babies. ;) Switched to humira in the 2nd trimester with my 3rd kid. Remicade is Pregnancy category B which means it's considered pretty safe. Tylenol is preg. cat. B if that gives you any idea of how safe it is. It does not cross the placenta until 30-32 weeks so your GI will most likely schedule your last pregnancy infusion around then and then you'll get another one after you deliver the baby. I also breastfed while taking it. The studies have shown that the molecule of remicade is too large to pass through to the milk, so it's fine to breastfeed while on remicade if you want to. Back in 2004 the info about when it crosses the placenta wasn't known and I got the high dose (10mg/kg) every 5 weeks of my pregnancy until delivery so that means at 30 & 35 weeks. My daughter is healthy, intelligent, and has no physical/mental problems whatsoever.

Thanks guys for your input, my specialist also stated it is safe until the 3rd trimester, but wanted some mommies input.

You got your answers from our resident experts. We have so many mommies that have used meds from Pred to 6mp/Imuran to Remicade and Humira. Good luck to you!
