Have you ever been blamed for having Crohn's?

I don't find that people comment on my eating, but they do usually note that I'm not thin (which is unusual for CD). And, very commonly my family will tell me I need to "reduce the stress in my life" which always makes me crazy, because first of all stress didn't CAUSE the CD and second of all -- do they really think that telling me to do so makes it possible??

Sometimes, people at work "take me aside" and share very personal details with me to see if I think they might have CD or UC. I encourage them to go to a GI - I have no medical degree! I am always kind, but it's not pleasant sitting across from someone in a meeting who has just told me in great detail about the consistency of his BMs.

Goes with the territory I guess.

I am one of the lucky ones. My family,friends, and coworks are great. never no grief.

Just reading of your guys's experiences with this stuff makes me start to go into full-on rage mode, the kind that limits my ability to speak coherently and, if given enough time, will inevitably result in me breaking something.

I'm a lot more level-headed about such things in person, so I'm not entirely sure how I'd react. I think I'd probably start with polite re-education, and if that failed, quickly move on to sarcastic mocking of stupid logic, and then eventually fly into the aforementioned rage. Probably. Depends on the one being an idiot. If it's one of my close friends, it will move much more quickly through the stages than if its just some person who doesn't know what they're talking about.

Anyway my heart, and my fury, goes out to you folks. The people around you may be insensitive morons, but you will always have a safe haven here!

All these people in my life .. leave me feeling so angry or in shock with their stupid remarks as well.. this is all new for me
Sometimes it's because our society only knows how to react to hearing the word..cancer or that someone had a heart attack... they understand those things because they fear them.. and then they seem to be almost too sympathetic and some present with avoidance behavior as if they are going to catch something even though they know they can't

They don't know how to act or what to do with people who have Crohn's Disease.. I don't think there has been enough public outreach.. and let's face it.. talking about what happens after we eat is not a subject most people want to understand or listen to.. they find it too gross.. it's easier for them to understand chemo or say a pacemaker

Most of the other people in my life know me as a strong independent person.. but this disease can make anyone lose their mojo real quick
I'm not the person I used to be when I'm walking down the street... and I've been keeping more of my feelings to myself because I'm saving my energy

just a few mean people can really get to you.. hopefully when and if I feel better after my operations I will be able to raise my voice again
It's been very helpful to be able to write my thought down in here.... and I hope I've even helped a few in the process
