Bladder Fistula Symptoms?

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has had a colon-bladder fistula and if so, what were your symptoms?

I have been going through a major flare lately (even with Remicade) and last night at 3:00 am, I woke up with the worst pain I have ever experienced. My pain is usually localized to my Right Lower Quadrant, but this was a whole abdominal pain, and some of the worst pain was actually in my back. I immediately made my way to the washroom, thinking that maybe if I could go to the washroom or pass some gas, the pain might decrease.

To my surprise, I only ended up urinating in the toilet but when I wiped, there was some dark brown/ black almost coffee ground-like material on the toilet paper. While urinating I also experienced a lot of pain, like bladder infection pain.

I ended up in the ER a few months ago with similar pain, not nearly so strong though, and the X-ray and CT can showed that a section of inflamed colon was coming into contact wit my bladder, but no fistula had yet occurred. The doctor's started another terrible round of Prednisone, immediately followed by my Remicade start.

I called my GI this morning (the pain had subsided about 2 hours after it started, and I also took 1 T3) and let the receptionist know all of my new symptoms, but unfortunately my GI is gone for 3 weeks. :S

Any similar experiences, or any light that can be shone on this would be much appreciated:)

Hello CD89. I have a fistula that is connected from my small bowel to my bladder. I had this for the last 18 months and it is the worst pain ever. It started with gas/air and brown and black liquid which is your bowel draining out. Now, I have all that still and whenever I eat some of my food comes out with my pee. I can not eat any meat but thin slice of lunch meat and fish, no vegetables or fruits. I really have to watch everything I put in my mouth. I am on Humira it healed my open wounds on my stomach ( had eight down to two) but all the drainage that was coming out of my stomach is no coming out my bladder. So it makes my pain three times worse. The doctors can't do surgery because of all the risk involved.Only have 12 inched of large bowel, they removed 1/3rd of my bladder last surgery and took 18 inches of my small bowel. You should no doubt get a CT scan and small bowel thru to see where you stand. Good Luck, Mr.D

Had one for several yrs. Lot of burning with urination at times. Pass gas through penis as well as fecal matter.

Hey thanks everyone for your input! None of that sounds very fun at all, but I am pretty sure I do not have a fistula. I just got back from the Dr and they are 95% sure I have kidney stones, probably from the mass amounts of meds and the dehydration. Mr.D, hope your pain decreases and that you can find some relief, and Dunchad, thanks for letting me know what symptoms you had.
