Ever since my two resections in 2008 I have had issues with short bowel syndrome. Several times throughout the year (especially when the heat and humidity get high, which is often in Arkansas), I get a lot of perianal burning during and after a movement. The best way to describe it is imagine a piece of prickly-pear cactus stuck between your cheeks and lit on fire. Sounds fun, right?
I have talked to my doctor about it several times and we have ruled out a fissure or fistula each time. He has determined that it is a fungal infection. He has prescribed Nystatin Cream (which helped for the first two years), Proctofoam HC, and most recently Econazole Cream. My doctor wanted me to use the Econazole twice a day for two weeks (I've been using it for almost a week). I'm still having a lot of burning throughout the day.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
