After the second dose of remicade, my remaining jp drain (in abscess) is down to producing about 3 cc of output over 24 hours(was 20/day before the treatments started). Have an appointment with the surgeon today...is he going to remove it for me? I'm hoping he doesn't make me go for another ct, have had 5 in the last 3 months and my wallet whimpers every time I reach for it (we won't mention that I still don't have my hospital bill).

The remicade is also really putting a hurt on the cd symptoms too. I'm off everything but Pentasa and while not completely gone, doing much better.

So...what's your guess? Will he pull it, send me for a ct or have me wait until there's no output?

As bad as I want this out, just the progress I'm seeing after 2 weeks (and 2 treatments) is phenomenal. I desperately want this thing out, but either way I'm extremely encouraged.

I would think he'd wait a little while longer because to e if your having 3 cc's then at the minimum you'd have to pack it with something like wet to dry gauze ATLEAST daily if your having that much still. But thats a huge drop in a very short amount of time. also seems like if your still having that much output wouldn't that sound as if theres a fistula attached to this abcess.

It is a fistula, but it was internal and created the abscess. So you think any output is enough to leave it in?

personally I think its enough, because you don't want it healing over and having to start all over again in my opinion, and you dont want to have to be doing wet to dry packings 2 or 3 times a day which is most likely what it would be, at first it feels like you've won with doing the packings, then it gets old real quick and you'll wish you had that drain still in lol.

I had to do wet to dry packings for close to 6 months when I had a fistula removed that was from an abcess years ago..I actually just stopped the packings a few weeks ago, all the way from the beginning which was november 2nd....which is quite a long long time to do it 3 times daily.

Oof, yeah, no fun.

However, where this drain is located makes life miserable. I haven't sat on my couch in a month and I have 4 different line/bulb setups depending on what I will be doing...and it always hurts. I'm not so sure I wouldn't prefer the packing...

Still have it...for now. Fistulagram tomorrow and if it's clear it comes out Wednesday.
