I have what I perceive to be a fairly mild case of Crohn's, considering what many others on this forum go through. As long as I am very careful about what I eat and stay far, far away from my triggers, I feel pretty good most of the time. However, every month without fail as I approach my M/C, my bowel gets extremely irritated and I have lots of cramping, D and overall discomfort. This also usually includes several "I have under 2 seconds to get to a bathroom or I'm in big trouble" episodes. This goes on for about a week until my M/C actually starts - then those symtoms subside.
IBS, my GI says.
This month, I had the usual D and some normal (or at least what I perceive to be normal!) BMs in between. BUT, the normal BMs were loaded with mucus. Like, a ton. Globs of it intertwined. I've never seen anything like it. My period has arrived so the D has stopped, but the mucus is still present in the stool.
Initially, I chalked it up to IBS......the mucus that is......but since it's still there, I'm starting to freak out a little bit.
My family had a wicked intestinal virus (lower) about two weeks ago, which I somehow managed to avoid. My poor husband spent literally 7 days and nights on the hopper. Could it be that I've caught a slightly different strain of that virus or is this a Crohn's thing?
