Another gift from Crohns/Steroids

Well saw the opthmalogist yesterday and seems that I now need cataract surgery.  He states that he is pretty sure because of how long I have had Crohns and multiple use of steroids is what caused me to have cataracts at 53.

Oh well easy surgery and should be done in 4-6 weeks.  They will give me general anethesia because I am really claustrophobic and a sheet over my face ain't gonna cut it.  That and I do not want to know someone is cutting in my eye:)  I do look forward to being able to not be blinded by sunlight or bright lights anymore.  Hugs!

I'm sorry you have to go through that. Now that I have endured an NG tube while awake, eye surgery is about the only thing left on my "too scared to even think about" list. Hope it goes well.

Aww Nanners one thing after another, but this probably will be a breeze compared to some of the things you've had to endure! I wish you the best of luck!

Yes the one nice thing will be that I will be able to see better afterwards. He said I will probably still have to wear my reading glasses, which is okay by me, but the distance, and colors I will definetly notice the difference.

If this surgery goes well, then I will do the other eye also, since it has a smaller cataract in it.

Zanne, I have had NG tubes put in while awake, a few times, and the thought of someone cutting my eye freaks me out even more. Haha..

Nanners.. I'm so sorry that you have to have another operation so soon. I know you will see better after so it is something to look forward to. I'm still so "hospitaled out" that I can't even imagine having to go thru another thing right away.. even if it isn't "major surgery" so I really empathize!!

That is pretty fast nanners, I'm glad your getting relief soon. I saw someone posted about an NG tube while awake, Once when I had porforations the surgeon tried to get me to let them place my catheter while awake, and my answer? Absolutely not, Ive had them multiple times while asleep I dont need one while awake lol. THAT is something I DONT WANT. nor someone doing anything to my eyes especially cutting into them.

Cataract surgery is a piece of cake. We did mine w/no sedation, nothing, except the eye drops to numb the eye and I felt NOTHING. All surgeries should be so easy and comfortable!!!!! Good luck and God bless, Nanners!

Oh good luck!!!!! At least you have a date, but then again, you have a date, so you have to dread/look forward to it, if you know what I mean. I always wonder if it would be better if the doctors just called us up and said, come in tomorrow, so we wouldn't have to "think" about things. Our minds can run amok, and get carried away. I'm curious to know how your cateract surgery went? Hope it went very well. I am 46 yrs old and have developed cateracts in both eyes due to steroid use because of vCrohns. My biggest complaint is the intense light sensitivity from the sun, bright lights, especially in stores, headlights at night etc. from your post, it sounded like you were dealing with the same symptoms. I'm wondering if the surgery made these symptoms go away? Please let me know.
