Humira first dose

So, tioday I had my first dosing of Humira.  I was so nervous about it.  When I got to my doc's office (the nurse was training me) she tells me that this is going to hurt.  My thinking is great..I know it stings a little but to say it is going to hurt.  darn.  Then she tells me they are going into my thigh (which I know hurts more than the stomach thanks to this forum).  My nerves shot up real high.

When it came time to do it I was so tense that I had her do the first shot...and nothing.  No pain, very little sting.  I was thinking..this is what I worried about.  Out of all 4 shots, only one really hurt and that was the one my wife did.  Otherwise...not to bad of an experience.

Right now my left leg feels brused a little but there is no swelling or redness so I am happy.  I worried for years over this and avoided it by doing Remicade for a year and a half.  I really should have done this one first.

So..no question here.  I just wanted to put my story out there to encourage people. 

That is awesome that it was pain free & simple. I had to take the shots in my stomach. The first several months were fairly easy to just do on my own but after that each shot started to sting more and more as it was being injected. Soon after the Dr's told me the shots weren't doing their job anymore. Not to turn your success with this down, but just be careful for that if it does street to bother you!

Did you do pen or syringe?

I get to start my humira this week with my loading dose...good to hear its not to bad....I cant wait and I hope it helps you as well as myself.

I am taking the loading doses in about 2 weeks. I am also doing the pens and plan to use my stomach. I've heard the more flab the less pain.. I've got plenty of flab. I am so NERVOUS! I am petrified of needles and honestly have had nightmares about this process. I have been on remicade for 5 years. I dreaded those IV's so much my BP would go way up until about 30 mins after the infusion was started. I am not keen on letting my husband give me the shots so I'll be doing them myself.. I really hope they are easy and painless!! Thanks for sharing your story!!

Lol it seems like I'm the only person who whined about the shots hurting so much as the injection was going in :(
I started Humira two days ago and I feel great so far. No side effects so far. Not evem fatigue. More firm stool a day after the injection.
My GI says I will be on weekly, not every two weeks for now. I'm guessing one pen per week? Instead of two pens every two weeks?

I started with the pens because I, too, hate the needle deal. I was doing pens to the stomach, and frankly, it hurt like heck during the injection. Much to my chagrin, my specialty Rx accidentally shipped syringes on one of my refills, so I tried 'em. Wow, what a difference for me! Being able to control the flow of the injection makes all the difference in the pain level IMO. Though I'm still not a fan of needles, I've gotten over most of my discomfort with them and will do syringes from now on. Also, leg shots are much less painful for me than stomach shots.
