insurance advice please......

i live in new york and currently on remicade i was looking to switch insurance to united healthcare-oxford or empire bcbs, i was just wondering if anyone has any experiendc how they cover remicade?? does it require prior auth? and if so, do they easily approve it- and what's the process-

i would appreciate any insurance advice since my deadline is friday 06/10/11- i have to know which carrier i will be selecting- thanks.

thanks for the info,  do you know if they approve it easily?? if i enroll with empire bcbs i will have it administered in my doc's office but if i take oxford i will have to have it at the hospital.

i did speak to the billing today- they said bcbs gives them a very hard time with approval-that's the only reason why i'm a worrying.....

i'm fine with that, it's not my first infusion and till now i know how they bill it- i = my insurance use to cover it %100.

I have a top of the line plan with UHC and have my infusions done in my doctors office. I don't pay anything for the remicade or the infusion.

I'm sorry im late in replying and hopefully you can use it in the future. I have a uhc plan through my dads employer, it is a very good plan, I only pay a $25 copay for my infusions, period. there was no need for pre-auth, but my dr still had to call, it isn't covered under the prescriprion plan, but is part of the medical. a lot of people are denied at first because the drs call it in to the pharmacy rather than the medical.

I applied for the remistart before we knew what my copay was (insurance couldnt tell me for some reason) and once we found out it was only $25 I didnt qualify for remistart (not that it matters anyways, 25 is nothing compared to the 6k+) but I believe you have to have at least a $50 copay to qualify.
