Suspected crohns in terminal ileum but pain on left side?

I have suspected crohns in my ileum due to B12 and folate defficencies and ulcers found during colonscopy. however if i had crohns there i would have pain on the right hand side as thats where the ileum is.

has any1 else got crohns in the terminal ileum but has left side pain? thanks

Hi dreamsdesire and welcome to Healingwell. You might be feeling what they call referred pain. Referred pain is when you have pain from one area and its felt in another. Kinda common with our bowel issues. Also left sided pain can be more gas pains also.

Has your doc started you on any meds yet? If so, what did he start you on. Usually its Prednisone to quiet the flare down, along with another med that will be your maintenance med. Even when you start feeling better be sure to stay on your meds. You have to remember that this is a chronic and incurable bowel disease and it must be treated at all times. I learned the hard way what not taking meds can do, and I ended up having to have a bowel resection due to complete ostruction, and I don't want you to go thru that.

Hello!  I have Crohn's in my terminal ileum and my pain is always in my central epi-gastric area (between my sternum and belly button).  The only time I get lower abdominal pain is when I get the cramping associated with diarrhea.  I hope this is cleared up for you soon and if you do have Crohn's, effective treatment is started soon.

I have Crohn's in my terminal ileum, and any pain I have is always, always, on the left side of my lower abdomen. Whenever I have diarrhea or gas, the pain is always there, too--even though I've already had a resection. My doctors have always told me that it's referred pain. Ouch.

Adding my voice to others, I have Crohn's in the terminal ileum as well. I typically have pain just under my bra line in the front, and my doc says this is "transverse colon cramping" that comes along with it. However, when I flare, my pain starts in the center of my back, then radiates down my right side, and when I really get into trouble, THEN I have left sided pain. It was so odd that my 2nd Crohn's doc (I'm on my 3rd now) wasn't sure it was a flare until he got my C-reactive protein numbers back.

Every response is EXACTLY right. I also have had multiple blockages where the pain and the bloat was on the Jejunum on the left. When the last operation was done he went to the right side, where the ilieum is, and VOILA, no pain in either side now.

I always feel the pain on the left side,too. It's like a sharp dagger on the left side, and wasn't sure if it could be Crohn's,but after reading these very informative posts, am feeling kind of reassured that it could be ,and not to worry so much as to whether it could be or not. There is family history of Crohn's, on my dad's side, with two members of his family having gotten it.And I do have several other symptoms ,so am pretty sure I have it..Quick question, I have a colonoscopy doctor appointment ( not the colonoscopy itself) but for a meeting with the doctor who will be doing it..anyway, what should I expect at this meeting? What tests would he want done? I'm going on Thurs, the 19th, and just wanted to know.
