Hi everyone.

       This upcoming Christmas we were thinking on taking the family on a trip scool ..but I have Crohn's and I do not do well in heat (It provokes nausea,weakness etc) Does anyone know of good destinations to travel to eyes when you have crohn's.Yes it can be pretty much anywhere in the world.We live in Canada.Thank you all.Anne ;)    :-)

It all depends on what you want out of your vacation and the ages and personalities of the people traveling. We have done several types of vacations and all have been successes, but some I have had an easier time than others. Planning is key.

Our family favorite is Disney World. From a Crohnie stand point, there are bathrooms everywhere, and they are always very clean. If you are in a long line, you usually can sneak out, run to the bathroom and get back in line with your family. Since everyone saw you leave, they are fine with you getting back in line. Never had a problem, except to miss a ride or two, but then we just meet up at the end of the ride. We usually go in November (and are thinking of going this year again). Our first trip with our kids, we left 3 days after our younger daughter turned 5, this year it will be a few days after her 21st birthday. We try to go every few years, and we still love it. We have gone with kids and without. I have been in Oct, Nov. and Jan. In Oct & Nov, it is still pretty warm during the day, but not overwhelming so that you are dying in lines. But its still nice to sit by the pool if you want to. In January, it was cooler, but still nice. We could swim because the pools are heated, but it wasn't sit by the pool weather. I assume December would be in the middle, so really nice weather. Disney is good because you can do a lot, or you can do nothing, on any given day, plus there are other places to visit depending on your interests, Seaworld, Universal....

The other type of vacation that works well for our family is a house rental by a lake. We do that every summer. But you could rent a house on a beach or a mountain for skiing, or the dessert, whatever works for your family. I like this type of vacation because, once again, the bathroom is always right there. We have been renting the same house for 18 years, but when we looked for a house the number of bathrooms was a priority. If you rented on a beach, you would be able to run back to the house whenever you felt the need and the rest of the family could carry on playing. We just sit and enjoy ourselves, moslyt water sports during the day and reading, boardgames, and movies at night. Since there is no cable tv, it forces the kids to spend time with us. The downside is that I still have to do most of the cooking. You could look at the Carolinas, it is suppose to be really nice and temperate, not super hot.

But it really does depend on ages and how many people. Good luck planning. Let us know what you decide.

I'm 46 too. We have done islands, cruises, driving vacations, camping, pretty much everything, but Disney is by far our favorite. You really can tailor it to whatever you what it to be. But if you don't like rides at all, then it isn't for you. You might want to consider contacting a travel agency for suggestions, although I would take everything they say with a grain of salt since they do make a commission. You could try CAA. I have had good luck with AAA here in the States.

i tend to like staying in the bigger hotels/resorts bc they have bathrooms all over the place. smaller hotels can be iffy...

I love cruises.  I can find cool and shady spots (I burn and overheat easily), you don't have to leave the ship unless you want to (sometimes it is fun to be on the almost empty ship) and there are bathrooms all over the place.

If you want to, you can cruise cooler climates.  I heard Alaska cruises are fantastic.  We have always done the Caribbean - I found Eastern and Southern best.

I did not do well at the Mexican resort as there were very few food options.  on cruises, the food was pretty standard fare and I could always find something that would agree with me

Oh and my hubby is 48 and I'm 45 and we find these fun.  There are lots of things to do

We travel all over the world.  Cruises are by far the easiest!  IF you are feeling great then go and get off and have a good time, if not you have a beautiful ship to relax ion.  but,, if t you do go to the Islands.. be aware they are all not bathroom friendly.  Places wont' let you in unless you are eating there. Found this out this winter is South Amercia.  Cities were fine.. smaller stops along the way.. NOT great. Have fun!
