Scared for colonoscopy to test for Crohns

The worst part was really the prep. I just had the gatorade mixed with miralax which I heard was the best prep you could have. But I was really nervous when I got there, even after looking up stuff like this on the internet too, I'm 19 btw. But once I got into the room I was okay. You put on a gown and then they put an IV in that just gives you saline, it really does nothing. They gave me a couple heated blankets. Right after they put the IV in I felt like I had to go to the bathroom and I got really nervous but then it went away. I waited for awhile and then went into the room where you roll onto your left side I think? And then they start putting the stuff in your IV and then after about 10 seconds I was out and I woke up in the room I started in after. For me, it was actually a very good experience, just very comfortable. Just don't try to go out to eat right after, bad idea!!

Bless your heart! You sound very anxious and I can't believe they wouldn't give you a mild sedative or xanax before your procedure. That is uncaring. Like others said, the prep is the worst part and you'll be fine!!! Once you get over this fear and do it once, you'll wonder what you ever worried about. That's how it was for me.

If you have anyone in your area that does guided imagery or medical hypnosis, that might help your fears. I had two sessions before my surgery last Nov. and I was cool as a cucumber. It really works!

I am sure it will go well and be over quickly and your doc will have some of the answers he needs to make you feel better.

Im 17 and had one last year. It's not that bad at all trust me. Just make sure you take it easy and move SLOW when you get home or you might feel like you have to throw up lol.

I was starving after both of mine! Not being able to eat the day before was the hardest part for me.

Got back home an hour and a half ago.

Feel pretty good except for some gas and bloating, nothing serious though.

I was awake for the whole thing, watched the screen and asked questions. They took 3 biopsies, removed 2 polips (sp) and banded 2 hemroids. I guess I won't know anything for a few weeks as far as the biopsies go.

All in all, the IV was the worst part, cause they tried one hand, and had to try again on the other.

I'll never be worried about getting one again, if the need arises..

On a side note, my butt was very sore and raw feeling before the scope from loose stools, etc. Then the Pico Salax made it worse. Now I've had some food and have been going to the toilet about every 40 minutes. That's okay, but the pain in sooo intense, burning and feels like razor blades passing through. It's got to be the most pain I've had except for when my appendix exploded on me. I just pray that my stomach gets back to somewhat normal soon. :(

Does anyone have a quick fix for some relief?
