I wonder if you guys can help. I'm 25, have had Crohn's for 2 years and so am still pretty new at all this and I'd love some advice from the experienced members on here!
about 3 weeks ago I started having a bad flare up (hospitalised then put on 40 mg Prednisolone on top of my usual Azathioprine and Mezavant). Since then my BMs have calmed down - I'm now at about 2 or 3 per day and not the 6 or 7 I was previously, but they do have blood in them.
I'm still in a lot of pain. It's a pretty constant thing, from when I wake up to going to sleep, and gets worse after eating despite me being on a very strict low residue diet. At the weekend I was having such bad cramping pain I couldn't stand up or walk. In addition I've lost 4 kilos since the flare began (that's about 9lbs for the Americans on here).
So far so standard, I think. But I had a barium follow-through yesterday and everything looked normal! No strictures, thankfully, but not even really much sign of inflammation so it looks like the Prednisolone has really worked.
But if I'm not inflamed, why would I still be in pain? And having blood in my BMs? It's almost even more frustrating not to have the answer after the test.
I have a colonoscopy scheduled for Thursday which might throw more light on the situation, but what do you guys think? Is it normal for the pain to take longer to go away than the inflammation? Is it my digestive system just restoring itself to normal?
Like I said, I'm new at this and this is far and away my worst flare up so far. I don't really know what to think; I'd love some help or advice...
