Hi Everyone! I have not posted here in a long time.  In the last 2 years I have  gone off of all medication and have had a baby, now 10 months. I have been doing awesome. I know what my triggers are and I have avoided the foods and thinsg that do it .. but now for the last week and a half I can't kick this flare. In the past I have been able to put myself to a liquid diet then gradually to a bland diet and it has controlled my symptoms.. I am so scared to go to the GI these days because of Prednisone .. I have kinds been out of the Crohns scene for awhile but assume that is still the go to these days?? Thanks you for your input !

Sorry to hear you're flaring up. I was in remission for 6 years and found it hard to make that call to my GI when I knew a flare had started. When I went to see him, he suggested pred, but I refused. We worked with other methods to control it (Entocort and Cimzia). (I gained 100 pounds last flare because of pred and I will NOT take it ever again unless it's life-or-death. I have worked HARD to get all the weight off.) It took a few months to get it under control, but we're about 95% of the way there. Not quite in remission, but tons better than a few months ago.

I agree with Steph, you can always refuse to go on Pred. Even if that's what your doctor suggests, you could ask for an alternative.

Go ahead and call the GI. The quicker you go, the quicker you can get to feeling better :)

Thanks for the encouragement. I went to the GI this morning after fighting with myself about it .. lol.. I am having a colonoscopy done in the morning since its been awhile.  Doc wants to see the activity of the disease and its progression before he decides his ocurse of treatment. I thought that sounded reasonable. Hope everyone is having a good day!

No doctor has ever asked me to go on prednizone, but I would refuse, no matter what. Many doctors will put you on something else with fewer side effects.

Good luck with the treatment. Your doctor sounds reasonable, always a good thing in a GI.

So sorry you are flaring..must be so frustrating. I have been in remmission for a year and now am told I have to see a g.I. Because I am dropping so much weight. I know he will suggest prednisone too. I break teeth when I take it, I also have had some phycological issues while taking it (depression etc.) I hate it. I know a few years ago there was a medicine called entocrot that was a different steroid, maybe we both can ask doctor about that...also congrats on the baby!

Today I had a colonoscopy and a CAT scan of the abdomin. Some inflamation, doc was pleased as to how things looked in comparison to the last scope 6 yrs ago. Starting Entrocort! How quickly did you guyss ee results? Also, the scope was at 630 this am, its now 6:15pm and I had had 2 glasses of juice and a popsickle all day and continue to go like I am prepping.. I don't remember this from the last time. Guess I will just stick to a little water.

I usually start to feel better 3-4 weeks after I start entocort. How much are they giving you? Hope you feel better soon.

I think he said 9mg, I start it tom and it won't be ready at the pharmacy until the morning. He said its 3 pills, take them all at once. 3-4 weeks sounds like forever .... :) I am hungry!
