Generic Entocort in the US - has anyone gotten yet?

Hi all,
I'm trying to fill a prescription for Entocort, and I heard that they recently approved the generic in the US...has anyone gotten the generic version yet? If so, which pharmacy did you use?

Hey there,

The info I found, Currently, there are no generic Entocort EC (budesonide EC) products available on the market. As soon as the patent for the drug expires in May 2011, other companies are expected to begin manufacturing a generic version of the medication. However, things such as lawsuits or other patents for specific uses of Entocort EC may push this date past 2011.

Others may have more update info then what I found.  Good luck.

This is the news article i read about the generic being approved - they said it should ship immediately. That's why I was wondering if anyone has gotten it yet. Hoping it's available soon, bc its so expensive!!!

Hey there....you are right - I looked at your link and also googled and found many other sites that had the same news release.  However I could not find any info re if the generic is on the market yet.

I tried to call Mylan and of course they are closed for the day.  ARGH !

ha horns :P Often generic meds are made in the same labs as the brand name. Either way its regulated by FDA so you get the good stuff just cheaper. : )

I just picked up a RX this last weekend and started it, so far so good cant tell any difference yet, I was a little hesitant I have to admitt!!

Picked mine up a week and a half ago and was amazed that I was paying $5.00 opposed to $470... now if it will continue to work the same for me. I have high hopes and am relieved at the price!!!

My GI just confirmed this as well as my local pharmacy telling me they have it on hand. Now I just have to find out the co-pay.  OUTSTANDING news!  Even though I am off of it, I am seeking to get back on it for a bit due to the immense stress I am going through lately.

I talked to my GI and the generic drug company. They are backordered on the drug for a few weeks...but my G.I. said it doesn't dissolve in the gut the same way Entocort does. I have Chron's in my illeum, and she said the generic breaks up ion your stomach...meaning you might as well take an overall steroid and that you might have all the side effects of a regular steroid....so she does not prescribe the generic to anyone. And of course Entocort stopped offering their coupons...so I'm just not going to use it again. I'm going to find a doc to prescribe LDN...lots of info on this site...check it out.

I was in my DRs office this morning for an appointment and the pharma rep stopped by and told the receptionist they were not going to offer any more samples after this Friday, so if they wanted some they should get some now. Unfortunately, I did not know at that time I was going to get put on Entocort when I saw the DR as my Humira does not seem to be working by itself. I wish I would have known sooner so I could have asked him about it.

I just paid $5 for 90 pills last night.  They are the same color and even still say Entocort on them.  Will be trying them today.

my mother just got generic entocort ec at kroger pharmacy. this is an ohio grocery store based pharmacy.

There has always been a generic offered overseas. What makes entocort, entocort is the delivery system to the small bowel. If you ahve small bowel issues then the delivery sysytem is important. Just like pentassa.

I really really hope that the generic works out. However if it does not, you can brand name entocort out of canada for about 180 per month (3 x 3 per day). This is a lot more than $5.00 bit a lot less then $500.00.

I ordered all entocort from canada and still order pentassa (although the pentassa is NOT the same as in the US).
