This morning as I walked along the bayou side of my back yard I saw a small gator following the far bank . He was about a two foot youngster . I went to the shed and got my fishing rod and cast a popper about half way across the bayou and made some good splashing tugs . He came straight for it . Each time he got within striking range I pulled it away , and he followed until he was at my feet . Each time he saw me move he would make a big splash and dart under coming back up about half way out and each time I would coax him back with the popper. I even let him grab it a few times knowing he would not get hooked in that hard mouth . He would pull hard and fight it for a while and then let go only to come back and chase it again and again. This went on until I became tired . After , I sat and watched him swim away to resume his search . He reminded me that we all follow this pattern . Us crohns patents chase meds and doctors that we think will give us what we need . We will try again and again hoping that maybe the next time we will have the right answer . We fight and then feeling the futility of our efforts we give up for a while only to try again . We don't know if what we need is out there but we are always on the lookout . Because a 12 foot alligator has a brain about the size of a walnut , this baby has one about the size of a pea , but even so , what he must do to survive is very clear to him . We all have that same instinct deep down inside , though we may chose not to listen from time to time. So now that I have had breakfast and a good cup of coffee I intend to mimic brother gator and bask in the sunshine for a while .

That is so true Sniper!!! We know what we need to do to feel better. And some do choose not to listen, and later come back to find out we were right. Thanks for sharing. Hugs!

Zanne , I do so resemble the old turtle , Master Oogway on Kung Fu Panda , at least in wrinkles and speed of movement . Not so many other common traits I fear . Don't believe I am into calling people , Grasshopper , as another master was so inclined on another program with similar eastern philosophy . So , as quickly as you can , snatch the pebble from my hand . Now thump me in the head with it . Time for you to leave and for me to go back into my shell for a while . Even a stone must continue its journey . In my case that is usually down my urinary tract . Knowledge is so painful at times .

all well and good sniper, so peacefull and calm.... but ya should a shot it, skined it , ate it and made the wife a purse! :)

Twasent big enough for a purse Randy. Maybe some gator foot earrings . Dawg , the trick is to know how big or small they can be for you to mess with them . Anywhere from about two feet to about 6 feet , not a problem . 12 feet long , big problem . Most trouble of all, 1 foot long or smaller . If you mess with the little one they make a small chirping sound like , Nunk , Nunk , Nunk. Next thing you know your up to your behind in Mama gator and she wont be happy . I don't suggest you mess with baby bear either for the same reason.

Nunk? Nunk? Nunk? Did someone call? Mama Gator's here and she's feeling pretty darn snarky. Fecal impaction does that to me.

C2, That Nunk Nunk Nunk is not as loud as Curly of three stooges fame but mama gator isn't ever far away and I'll bet you having her come out of the water , mouth open in their direction is enough to make most anyone empty their bowels on the spot . May have found a cure for constipation too.
Dawg, I meant to say that we don't live in fear of them any more than the snakes here , we are just very much aware . Small ones and large ones alike are always on the move in search of food. If they don't find it, they move on if they do , they stay . You never feed a baby gator unless you want a life time resident and when he gets big he will associate people with food. Not a good thing . Usually if a big one takes up residence near a populated area of the bayou , poultry and pets start to disappear . Not long after that gator disappears . Someone always knows someone with tags and old gator ends up like those on swamp people and then perhaps into a nice pair of boots or bags . Oddly enough I don't own anything made of gator hide . I almost bought a wallet of same one time but stayed with cowhide . I do have the feet of the largest one I ever killed somewhere around in my shed but the head, I gave it to a neighbor . I think it got thrown away in the clean up after one of our many hurricanes .

Hi all,

It's been years since I have been on this site and I knew I would feel better as soon as I read a post by you, Sniper. 

I was showing this site to a co-worker who's niece was just diagnosed and saw so many familier names I just had to say hello.

Sniper, C2, Randy, Habs, I hope you are all hanging in there.

My remission may be over after 9 years.  I've already had the CT Scan and the colonoscopy is next week.  So, you may be seeing more of me too with questions about all the new meds I haven't kept up on.
