Having surgery on Monday but now my symptoms are gone!!?

Thank you for reading! I am scheduled for my very first surgery on Monday and we are anticipating the removal of several sections of my jejunum. For months now I have been enduring some pretty serious pain, sleepless nights, gas like you wouldn't believe, I could go on and on. I had a colonoscopy just 2 days ago to make sure my colon is still in good shape before surgery, and since then I've felt like a million bucks. I figured that I would have some symptom relief after not eating for 2 days and doing the bowel prep, but I figured that once I resumed eating that the gas, pain, and obstructive symptoms would return right away...but they haven't yet! Has anyone experienced this before? In the past I've noticed that stress can temporarily reduce my symptoms- like when I was traveling this summer and when I've been at work (I'm an RN, though I haven't worked in a month due to my symptoms). Maybe the stress of surgery in 72 hours is taking away my symptoms? I've been so looking forward to surgery all this time, and now I'm worried that they'll open me up and wonder what my problem was! Haha. I've had loads of CTs and MRIs to show that I have long stretches of jejunum with thickened walls, stricture, and dilation, so I know I'm not crazy, but where did all my pain go??

If you can shed any light on this, please do! I'd love to hear your feedback.

Thank you, Vicky! I needed the reassurance! I can't tell you how many times I've been suffering for weeks at a time (long before surgery was ever considered) and when I'd finally get in to see my GI doc, I'd magically feel like a million bucks! Isn't that a trip? Every doc that's seen me recently has had zero doubt that I need surgery, so I guess I just need to relax and rest assured, like you said, that the pain will be surely visit me once again. Sadly, I think I don't know what to do with myself when I'm not in pain now. That's pretty sad, isn't it?

I really hope all that goes away for you soon! This is actually the healthiest I've been in years, which is why I felt that now is the perfect time for surgery. I think I must have been in a flare throughout nursing school, but since then everything has improved, except for all of the scar tissue the flare left behind! Once the scarred jejunum is taken out, I should be as good as new (crossing my fingers!).

First of all good luck with your surgery I hope you will have the longest remission ever!  All I can tell you is that everytime I visit my GI and I think I'm having the worst symptoms ever, when he assures me that everything is OK, I feel like a bird ready to fly!  I think the pain and symptoms play games with our heads!  I mean once I went to my GI's office feeling certain that I was having a blockage, and when he examined me, he thought I was crazy! He said my belly looked perfect, no noises, soft etc....  I don't know what's wrong! 

Maybe you don't have symptoms because you know you are going to have the surgery and everything will be under control!

Christina: i am becoming familiar with doctors who think we are crazy. Well, I do not have any sure diagnose yet, but anyway.

So - no symptoms beacuse of surgery - how much dose ones mind have here? I hate sentence It is all in your head! Bljack!
