I'm so glad to hear from all of you!
Sudsmom, I'm sorry you have one of those wounds that never seem to go away. The only situation I had was that I contracted some sort of infection in one of the skin layers around my navel that I had to take levaquin for for about 2 weeks. At first it stung quite a bit. I didn't really have it until the day before I left the hospital. I didn't have any food at all for about 10 days and I looked about the same as when I went in. When I was weighed for my post op a week later I saw that I had lost about 12lbs which would have put me where I was about 6 months ago. Now I gained it all back these last 2 months but I know with the weather finally getting cooler I will be walking more and hopefully I will also be eating more green and colorful food. Right now I am still on mostly a low residue diet which would make anyone gain weight. I'm hoping that I will be a lot less tired and also stronger as time goes on so I can do more.
Lamb61, Those anti-depressants that seem to help a lot of other people actually make me feel worse. I have tried several of them. We are just going through a very tough time right now. I do talk to a shrink once a week and he also says that this has been a really awful time. As far as bouncing back physically, my wounds healed fairly quickly and since the initial painkiller time after surgery, I haven't really had pain.
Nanners I am so sorry you are going through such a tough time yourself! I read some of your posts when I think you were throwing up and having D (I'm sorry but I just couldn't sign in and post back then but I was thinking of you) and I know how hard it is having to work when you really can't. As far as enjoying life it's true that it would have been nice if we could have had some time to just relax. There has been so much time just healing and I just didn't feel up to making any sort of plans aside from taking a short walk. I remember reading a few months ago on here one of the recent surgery women saying that they were back to running a few miles just a few weeks after their surgery. YIKES is all I can say on that. Eventually, the stress and money probs and all the other medical stuff that's wrong with me will just have to chill out and then I will be able to reflect on these last few months and years and be able to put things in perspective. I can't just yet.
Zanne There were times I just broke into tears. I haven't cried this much ever. I was so overwhelmed. I was upset the first few weeks about everything after I got home. Very stressed that the way I was healing was so different than what most of you have talked about. Eventually, when I was able to stop taking the oxycodone I felt much better. I'll write more another time about the whole surgery thing and my recovery.
kazbern My surgery did go very well. It really is amazing. Every time I think about everything that has happened these last few months and how well it all came out... I guess I'm just really lucky. And then I think wait - you spent hours every day researching every aspect of each surgery, dr, etc etc. But it all could have come out so different so I am very grateful to all the drs and nurses and most of all my boyfriend who took such great care of me.
Anyway I will write more when I feel up to telling the whole hospital and recovery story. In the meantime there's a few threads I think I need to add my 2 cents to.. lol
