flu shot first timer - any reactions with my meds or such

I am getting a flu shot for the first time next week.  Since I no longer work from home, I have caught so many colds in the last 7 months.  I think it's time I get the shot (even though I did not catch the swine flu from hubby two years ago).

So I swell up with any vaccine injection.  I can handle that with some ice.  Is there anything that reacts to Pentasa or or an issue with anemia (I am at my whitest right now!).  I am getting the shot at work so I want to make sure I don't have anything major to be concerned

No the vaccine you are gettting is not a live virus, so you should have no issues with it. I got a little sore arm the next day but nothing major. The flu mist is the one with a live virus, so you will be fine with the shot. Hugs!

I've had the flu shot for at least the past 4 years, and each of those times I was on pentasa (and anemic at least two of those times.) I had no problem/reaction.

There's a form that you fill out that asks if you are allergic to a certain list of things (eggs and egg products come to mind as one example.) I don't recall if they ask me what other meds I am on, but they probably ask allergies, and they do ask whether you've had a reaction to a flu shot in the past.

I had my flu shot last week. My arm was sore for the rest of the day and the next day, but nothing else. I have been getting the flu shot for years and swear it keeps me from picking up the worst of the bugs out there. As Nanners said you need to avoid the flu mist, but the shot is fine.

I don't tend to swell up with any shots, but I am on Pentasa and I also have anemia. I have to get my flu shot every year because I am a teacher's assistant for a county school. I got mine on Monday and it pretty much just took some energy out of me the next day. Slept in like crazy. But other than that I was fine. In your case, I would only be concerned since you have a history of reactions. Just make sure you tell the nurse before she does it, and I should think you will be well taken care of.

Almost everyone gets a sore arm from it. I'm on Pentasa and also anemic all the time and I've had no probs at all
Don't even think twice about it. The flu is much worse than the shot.
And then get a b12 in the other arm like i did..lol

Haha NYVeggie, I did that the other day. B12 shot in one arm and Tdap in the other.

Thanks everyone....we all must be timing our lives together!  I am due for my B12 the same day as my flu shot is scheduled.

Thanks for the support......lets try and stay away from flu for all of us this year

I got my flu shot every year for the past 6 years. I've been on Imuran and Remicade everytime. Never had an adverse reaction to it.
