Hi all,

Winter is coming and so is darkness and cold (not a very positive forecast). I was wondering if any of you have experience with tanning beds under Humira.

My GI is currently on holidays, so I can not reach him. I remember he mentioned tanning beds were not "allowed" under Inmurel (when we were trying to find the right medication). He didn't mention it again for Humira though.

BTW: Did you watch the second episode of "Fringe" on TV? The murder victime had Crohn disease and the killer was absorbing some nutrients in the blood. Creepy! LOL.

Dont quote me on this, but im pretty sure sun beds are not allowed with humira! I am so pale i am almost see-through, so i know exactly how you feel - ive also thought about sun beds etc, but i stick to home spray tans and the gradual lotions, people inc drs have already started to comment on how well i look!
funny what a tan can do for you on the outside eh!!

Don't do it!!! I am on remicaide and the sun was hell on me this year... so i would think a tanning bed would be way way worse. Find a self tanner, so much better on your skin and no chance of getting nasty cancer from it!!

I would advise anyone not just those taking Humira to steer clear of sunbeds, stick to self tanners - much safer. Don't get me wrong I have been vert tempted as I am so pale it takes me 3 weeks to go from grey to white :) but risk of skin cancer isn't worth it.

Totally agree with TakillRa and Stripey.
It´s not wourth it.

There are other ways of getting a "tan"/look fresh.

I'm on Methotrexate and Remicade and use tanning beds with no problem.

Thanks for all the answers. I guess I will stay away from the tanning beds, at least until I speak with my GI.

I can let you know what he thinks.

Tanning beds have been shown to increase the risk of skin cancer, including melanoma.

Long term use of immunosuppressants may also increase the risk of skin cancer.

Put the two together and it's an especially risky combination.

petittarte, you may not have any problems now, but you're substantially increasing your risk of future skin cancer by using tanning beds while on immunosuppressant medication.
