Hi...has anyone had success with Humira healing their fistulas? If WP, how long did it take?

I have been on Humira for 5 years and had a fistula that has been operated on 3 times and still has not healed all the way.  It just depends on the person and where the fistula is at.  Every one is different.  Mine is recto-vag and now has a seton placed that has been there for a year.  Doesn't really bother me much any more as the seton keeps it drained and doesn't allow it to abcess.  With CD it really is alot of trial and error to find what works for each individual.  Good luck!

Wow! Is the Humira working for your CD? My husband is actually the one with CD. He recently had surgery and now will live with an ostomy...which he is loving life right now! It's been 5 weeks since surgery and we feel like he has a new lease on life. Before surgery, he was at his worst ever with CD. He was on Humira prior to surgery and his GI said to start back with surgery for his fistulas. And I just want to make sure that's the right path.

Humira closed up my previous fistula in about 6 months. Some data from a post I made a while back on the effectiveness of Humira and Remicade on fistula:

Remicade was studied in 1999 and shown to help heal fistula in somewhere around 60% of patients - with complete fistula closure after 6 weeks in 40%-50% of patients. I did a quick google and it looks like the CHARM study looked at Humira's ability to treat fistula. They found 58% of patients experienced healing after 1 year (68% after 3 years). So it sounds like they are about the same.

I started taking Humira right after I had surgery for 3 fistulas and since I started I haven't had any more fistulas. And that was a little over a year ago.

Hi Lovely...Congrats! Are you still on Humira? And do you still have active CD? What kind of surgery did you have?

hi, madigascar. Yes I am still on Humira. It was increased since I first started to once every 10 days instead of once of 14 days. But that happened about 2 months after I started. I had a fistulotomy on all 3 and drainage because I had 2 abscesses at the same time.And thankfully no, I have been in remission since I started Humira. I've had a few bumps in the road since then but all in all I've been much better since I started Humira. Hope your husband gets better soon!
